As a long time Arch user (but not forum poster) I've recenly installed Arch on a new laptop and have encountered a couple of networking annoyances. I should mention that neither of these appear to be specific Arch problems - they both seem to originate upstream, but was wondering if anyone could suggest some workarounds/ solutions. Needless to say any help would be greatly appreciated.
1) Networkmanager. I'm currently trying to persuade networkmanager to connect at boot (as supported from 0.7+) however I've run into a bit of a roadblock with polkit. According to the Arch wiki page I need to grant myself permission to add system connections, however, it seems that since the change from policykit to polkit, polkit-auth no longer exists on my system. Is it lurking somewhere else (it's possible I'm just being stupid!) or do I need to do some config file editing (any policykit/ polkit documentation I can find is far from easy to parse, and the website link for the arch pakage links to a non-existant entry on the freedesktop wiki). I realise there are a number of alternatives eg wicd, but any suggestions would be great.
2) mount.cifs. It appears that the recently released smbclient update deliberately ignores the fact that I've set mount.cifs as setuid root to allow normal users to mount shares without explicit fstab entries. This a apparently a temporary solution to a security issue, but leaving aside the fact that it causing me a fair amount of Arch user "its MY system, it will do what I tell it to" rage, its pretty frustrating as it breaks my previous behaviour for dealing with shares. According to the samba mailing list it is possible to re-enable the old behavior at compile time (sorry at work - don't have link) but I've been unable to find any infortmation on how to do this.

Same issue. I tried to set wifi connection on boot by means of networkmanager as it was descried in wiki, but polkit-auth is missing. A simple solution is to use wicd, but personally I don't like it and prefer to have networkmanager. Wiki must to be rewritten.
