Subversion: What is it?

I notice this in the KDE 3.4 wiki:

==> Kdesdk has been built with support for Subversion.
==> If you want to use this feature use the following pacman command:
==> 'pacman -S subversion'

I did a Google on 'kde subversion' and only find stuff about how to install it, makes it work right, etc. But nothing on what it is.

Re: Subversion: What is it?

pacman -Si subversion
...
Description : Replacement for CVS, another versioning system
...

If you are not a programmer, you probably don't need it. Otherwise it could be of help. I always wanted to learn to use CVS or RCS or subversion, but was always too lazy to do it. So I'm still using just good old tar... manual work big_smile

Re: Subversion: What is it?

Thanks. I'm not a programmer, so I'll skip it.

Re: Subversion: What is it?

It's not restricted to programmers. If you have text files (.html, script, personal PKGBUILD) that are modified frequently, it might interest you.  I've used CVS a while ago for a project then I stopped using it and forgot how it works.  It's easy to use ounce you are familiar with it.
