Not sure what I've done but am getting:
-bash /etc/profile: permission denied
[I have no name!@local]
when logging in on a console with a normal user.
Root logins fine.
I've checked permissions on /etc/profile & /etc/passwd and compared them with another PC installation. Nothing obviously wrong.
I've also created a new user but that account has the same problems.
Anyone suggest anything or a am I going to have to give in and reinstall Arch?
Mine are 755 (on both PCs).
I may have partially solved the problem using:
This now gives a correct login. However, when starting any window manager, none of the terminals (xterm ,eterm, rvxt) open. Other apps work fine.
Also, I can't change to vc1-6 using ctrl-alt-F1 until the wm is exited.
Rebooting eliminated the outstanding problems.
Whew.... I was getting worried there!
