Can't get rid of Windows XP

My aunt asked me to help her with her PC which runs Windows XP. So, I persuaded her to switch to linux. But there is something weird going on. Once the installation medium has started booting the Arch Linux logo and a grub menu appear on the screen. When I hit enter, I can barely see the usual messages on the screen. After 5 seconds the screen goes black entirely. Then, 30 seconds later, Windows XP appears on the screen???
Is this a hardware problem, a virus problem,...? I have the same problem with Knoppix live CD.

Re: Can't get rid of Windows XP

Unplug the hard drive for testing and see if you can boot the CD ok then.
If that works, you might need to format/fdisk the hard drive first using another PC or something.

I can't explain *why* it's happening, but that might work around it wink

No. The disk is possessed. You need to drive a stake through it...
