BitTorrent 4.0 rocks

Have you guys tried the new release of Bit Torrent?

I was a long time Bit Tornado user (with the ncurses dialog) but now I've switched to using Bit Torrent 4.0 with the pygtk gui.

Neat stuff.

On a side note, I've gone through the "trouble" of replacing the application icons w/ standard gtk2 ones. Let me know if you want the tarball. tongue

Re: BitTorrent 4.0 rocks

BitTorrent 4.0 sucks. It crashes all the time on my OpenBSD box, even with --enable_bad_libc_workaround 1. So much for portability, lol.

If this were an OpenBSD forum I'd care a little more about your problem.

Re: BitTorrent 4.0 rocks

do you have a PKGBUILD or do I just have to change the version number in the old one?

What problem? I'll just continue using 3.4.2, I don't need that fancy gui stuff anyways.

I don't mean to be rude - but using OpenBSD on a workstation and expect normal desktop performance is like standing on a rail and refuse to believe that a train eventually will hit you.

Re: BitTorrent 4.0 rocks

It seems you think I was using my OpenBSD box as a desktop/workstation. Please give me a quote of me saying that, because I cannot remember I ever did.

And thank you for your worries, my OpenBSD box is running quite well, I cannot complain. However, performance is not what we're talking about, is it? I was reporting crashes, not sluggish performance.

Python is supposed to be portable. Rightly so, OpenBSD has a working Python environment. Thereforen one could expect python applications to work. To suggest otherwise is quite silly in my eyes, that would beat the very concept of Python being portable.

Oh and btw, BitTorrent 3.4.2 runs fine, it is version 4.0 that's producing the crashes and that was exactly I was "complaining about". What does that tell us? See my first post in this thread for an answer.

Btw, not properly reading other peoples' posts and expecting to get a kind answer is another use case for that fine allegory of yours.

Btw, your post is pointless as I am not using OpenBSD as a desktop nor workstation (just to sort that out for those equipped with a wee bit more imagination).

As any other OpenBSD-user... smile

Re: BitTorrent 4.0 rocks

Just out of curiousity, incinerator, what is it that you use OpenBSD for, that would make use of Bittorrent, without being a desktop or workstation?  Also, might I suggest that there may not be a problem with your pygtk installation (or lack of) rather than bittorrent?

Re: BitTorrent 4.0 rocks

hmmm it's crashed on me a handful of times....
at least it keeps whatever I have queued....

it doesn't crash if idle.... but if you do a bunch of flipping around with "download now" and "download later"

Well, instead of complaining about it crashing, if its a bug in bittorrent, make a bug report, and if its a bug in python, then make a bug report! In an open source world, the developers cant test everything they do, they just do whatever they can.

No pygtk, no gui. Just screen, btdownloadcurses.py and btlaunchmanycurses.py

My OpenBSD box is internet gateway, firewall, dhcp server, dns server and ntp server and torrent downloader for my home network. I can't be bothered to run BitTorrent on my desktop as that is powered off over the night.

I don't see a reason why BitTorrent cannot be useful on a box that doesn't run X. Surprisingly, the console clients can download torrents just as well. What else do you need? Shiny GUI? Overrated.

Cheers,
Dominik

um - migorz - why are you advertising to the world that you are illegally downloading vmware and a keygen via bitorrent? that don't seem too smart

I think you should take a look at torrentflux - it's a php/mysql powered front end for bittorrent / bittornando, it's really nice to operate.
I'm not sure how it works with the chrooted apache in OpenBSD, though.

Re: BitTorrent 4.0 rocks

Well guys, sure bittorent got its good side too, but I dont use due to the low dwl rate. I wish they could make it faster like grouping the dwl speed and start with the fastest one. Im not sure it uses that kind of feature...but I may be wrong. However, I tested it out with ctorrent...it almost gave me a hard on.
