Broadcom wireless

Okay, I've been having a lot of trouble with my trouble configuring wireless. I'm using a broadcom 4312 and I can scan netoworks, and seemingly connect to them, but I still cannot connect to the internet. I have the same exact issue in Ubuntu 10.04 so I kind of gave up and wrote it off as beyond my control. Yesterday though, I saw somebody with the same wireless card mention that wireless in Crunchbang worked out of the box for them so I decided to try a livecd of Crunchbang, and lo and behold it works out of the box; so I'm sure now that I can get wireless working, I'm just not sure how to go about doing it.

In Crunchbang I'm using the broadcom-sta driver; however, the broadcom-sta driver didn't work in Ubuntu;. In Arch I tried using the broadcom-wl driver and the b43-fwcutter driver. I had the most luck with the b43-fwcutter driver where I was able to scan networks and with iwconfig wlan0 essid xxxx key xxxx I could even connect to the networks (this is also as far as I got with Ubuntu). I still couldn't connect to the internet though. Normally, I wouldn't even worry about it but recently I've really had to rely on wireless so I've had to use Crunchbang, and while Crunchbang is a wonderful distro it just is not the same. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? I've found a lot of people with issues with the drivers and video cards but I've yet to find a working solution.

Just for reference here is my wireless card: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g

Re: Broadcom wireless

Checked http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_BCM4312 ?
Tried using netcfg, maybe? I can't connect with iw/ifconfig sometimes either, using bcm4311.

Cheers.

I followed that wiki my first time, I haven't tried using anything besides iw/ifconfig though. Once I get home I'll do a quick install and see if I have any better luck with netcfg. Thanks for the suggestion!

Okay, using netcfg instead of iwconfig worked so thank you so much, this has been driving me crazy!
