For the KHTML thing

Systemsettings --> Advances (tab) --> File Associations --> text/html --> embedded (tab) --> webkit-kpart (or something like that)

than everything will use webkit instead of KHTML (Akregator, KMail, everything)

FYI, if you are experiencing problems with the system tray (other than items not being deleted from it), update your dbusmenu-qt-git. The issue with items not being deleted should be fixed with the next qt bug fix release which is due rather soon.

you mean over webkit? None that I'm  aware of. Plasma already uses webkit from quite some time and khtml will be probably deprecated altogheter sometime in the future.

Ιt's not something about advantage. It's the KDE Html engine, the "mother" of Webkit. KHTML is being used by the KDE apps which want to reach internet but also want to respect the KDE internet settings.

Well, the kdewebkit binding classes to Qtwebkit are supposed to respect these settings, as well as cookies, cache and passwords (via KDE Wallet integration). There are still rough edges, but I am not aware of an actual loss in functionality. It is also true that both KHTML and KDEWebkit are used in several applications and thus already loaded in memory. To assess whether there are any advantages for one or the other, we would need tests regarding speed, stability and rendering. Not sure there is anything like this.

Also, there is no official plan to deprecate KHTML. But the relative speed of Webkit development compared to what the (very talented but) unfortunately few KHTML developers can achieve keeps increasing the numbers of KDE developers who would like Webkit to supersede KHTML. But so far, there has not been any decision. I guess as long as there are devs working on KHTML and app devs embedding it, it will remain with us.

Updated to KDE SC 4.4.86svn1138650....no special news, just bugfixes

To answer the question about beta - I decided not to package it because it was tagged one or two days after I released 4.4.82 and I didn't want to waste my resources on another update when I knew that there will be even better release (this) already next week :-) And if next beta(s) won't keep with snapshots' release schedule (wednesdays), I won't package them. We have [kde-unstable] for this.

EDIT:
I rebuilt kdenetwork-kget and kdebase-konqueror against kwebkitpart-svn so it should be able to use it for embedded HTML browsers. kwebkitpart-svn is in [kde-snapshots-extra].

Hi boys!

I finally found out what's wrong with our KDM...in fact, KDM's all right, the problem is in my repo smile. Do you want to make your KDM working again? Then open 

/usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc

and comment following line:

GreeterUID=kdm

We don't have any user called kdm, therefor we can't give him any rights...now KDM should work wink I'll fix this in next release by patching that ugly kdmrc generator...

startkde in .xinitrc does not work for me neither...I was doing

$ X &
# wait for X to start, then switch back to terminal
$ DISPLAY=":0" startkde

But with the KDM fix it should be OK now - can you try?
