How to install Adobe Reader?

I've tried clyde -S bin32-acroread, but it wants libraries having PKGBUILD missing. Should I better try installing from Adobe rather than from AUR?

If reading pdf file is the only aim, then I would suggest a few other options like epdfview, evince or xpdf.

Unfortunately, I do not use acroread, so I wouldn't know about the missing PKGBUILD. Sorry.

Do you mean this acroread package? Try downloading the tarball from the AUR page, and installing it manually (makepkg -s -i)

Maybe. I mean the one clyde offers as bin32-acroread.

Thank you for a method, maybe I'll make use of it someday. But I've already downloaded Adobe's binary installer and it's done its job perfectly, in a monkey-friendly manner

It wont. It is not in any standard repository. You have to build it from the AUR. Or use something like yogurt or clyde.

Edit: Mr. Alex, you must have installed it from a private repo.

Repos don't come from countries, you are probably thinking of mirrors. The repos you are using can be found in /etc/pacman.conf. Anyway this is all a bit OT, as acroread is not in the repos.

To the OP, if you believe that the PKGBUILD for bin32-acroread is broken, please post a comment on its AUR page detailing your problem. I can't confirm the error as I'm not on 64 bit. In general it is better to use PKGBUILDs instead of manual install where possible, for one you will then be informed of any updates. In fact the version the AUR package downloads is for some reason newer than the one you get from adobe?!?

You can find the acroread package in the archlinuxfr repo.

Yes I also archlinuxfr repo, which is trustworthy. But it is important to know that it is not an official repository.

Back to the topic, I can confirm bin32-acroread is broken at the moment. But its not a pkgbuild issue, its because a lot of lib32 packages are purged from AUR and are moved to new multilib repo which is causing problems. But there is a separate thread to discuss this. So try enabling [multilib] in your pacman.conf and see if it makes any difference.
