[SOLVED] BCM4322 Wireless

I am running a macbook pro 5.5 with the broadcome BCM4322 card. I can't seem to get my card to have any connectivity. I have spent time searching google and wikis with no luck. I have installed the broadcom-wl module via yaourt, blacklisted ssb and b43. I have wl showing when listing the loaded modules. I believe this is the same module I used and had it working with prior to this upgraded installation. If you have any insight or recommended direction for a solution, please help! smile

Re: [SOLVED] BCM4322 Wireless

what do you get with these commands

cat /proc/modules | grep b43
cat /proc/modules | grep ssb

if you get any output, try blacklisting these modules by adding to rc.conf

MOD_BLACKLIST=(b43 ssb)

Re: [SOLVED] BCM4322 Wireless

It would appear they are not active:

[ss7@archmac ~]$ cat /proc/modules | grep b43
[ss7@archmac ~]$ cat /proc/modules | grep ssb
[ss7@archmac ~]$

Re: [SOLVED] BCM4322 Wireless

Check out dmesg for pointers, you need firmware and I didn't see you mention that (broadcom cards used to require external firmware).

Re: [SOLVED] BCM4322 Wireless

dmesg  might report firmware problems (i think these errors are caused by b43 ?). but with broadcom-wl package no additional firmware is required. check if your wireless module is not turned off, both on hardware level (any keyboard key) and on soft level (rfkill).

Re: [SOLVED] BCM4322 Wireless

I don't have any hardware keys to turn off wireless with the mac and I haven't installed any such software on the system directly unless it was due to dependencies.. dmesg did report eth0 as belonging to the wireless card. I did not see any other indications of error.

dmesg is posted at:

Re: [SOLVED] BCM4322 Wireless

ok here is the thing. iwlist can only be run with root privileges, i think you are trying to run as normal user. also if you are using a GUI, install network manager and nmapplet (or any other connection manager) and try connecting. or if you prefer cli, then use wpa_supplicant to bind directly.

Re: [SOLVED] BCM4322 Wireless

I ended up getting it working. I removed all dependencies and the broadcom-wl package. I used pacman to install all dependencies and allowed yaourt to build only the broadcom-wl package. Rebooted and worked like a charm.

Re: [SOLVED] BCM4322 Wireless

I have a brand new install of arch, also using bcm4322.

So what exactly should I do to make it work like yours? Just "yaourt -S broadcom-wl" ? Is that all?
