along with adblock plus for firefox? I got a huge host file, I remember the difference it made in windows years back..here's the site I got it from..
http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/
and wrote it to /etc/HOSTS
i was wondering is there anything else I have to do? to do what wonders it did for windows?
i notice a speed enhancement right away in browsing..
jsut wondering if anyone has any more info.. or experiences.
thanks

so is there any advantage in using a hosts file over adblock+? that hosts file above has 87000+ lines that (i assume) need to be checked on every single lookup?

yes, there might be a slight delay when going through hosts, but the benefit is no connection is made to whichever hosts is listed in the file. i believe adblock/noscript/et al do a similar thing, but from what i've seen (in firefox) a connection is still attempted, though not completed. with hosts that connection goes straight to localhost and never leaves your network.

Wow, mine was like a tenth of that size!
Just a question I only just now thought to ask, do I need a separate hosts file for a 32bit chroot, or since all internet connections go through the same interface it doesn't matter?
