New monitor, low screen resolution

I've got a new monitor, a LG Flatron E2250V. According to manual, it supports 1920x1080 screen resolution.

Xorg is 1.8.

This is the last /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

Monitor manual shows the folowing specifications:

Horizontal Freq.: 30 - 83 kHz (Automatic)
Vertical Freq.: Analog,Digital : 56 - 75 Hz (Automatic). HDMI : 56 - 61 Hz (Automatic)
Input Form: Separate Sync. Digital.
Resolution Max VESA 1920 x 1080 @60 Hz. Recommend VESA 1920 x 1080 @60 Hz.

At this moment I only get a poor 1024x768 screen resolution.

Adding HorizSync  (30-82) and VertRefresh (56-75), the monitor shows a black screen and an out of range message.

Thanks in advance.

Re: New monitor, low screen resolution

You need to add the mode (1920x1080) or any others that you would like to your monitor in the xorg.conf file. Search the forums for examples.

Re: New monitor, low screen resolution

Try to remove xorg.conf and let the xorg to set the configuration automatically - udev should detect your card and monitor correctly.

If you see /var/log/errors.log

Jun 28 17:07:28 nono kernel: [drm:drm_edid_is_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 130

the system doesn't get any information about the monitor. I wonder if it is related to Vga/dvi cable, because I'm usin the vga one.

Re: New monitor, low screen resolution

I just bought two Flatron W1934S monitors.  I spent hours trying to get the max resolution of 1440x900.  Change my old vga cables to the two new ones that came with the monitors and I was away.  I could not belive that was all the problem was.  Hopefully I can save your hours of tinkering with xorg.conf wink

Miles28 is correct, Auto config will not work without EDID data.  Gazi is correct about cables.  It could be a missing pin in the VESA cable, but then I would expect No EDID data rather than Bad EDID.  It could be a bad cable or bad termination someplace.  Or, I guess, the EDID ROM in the display could be hosed.

Never-the-less, If EDID does not provide the configuration, you are going to have to configure it in Xorg.

Re: New monitor, low screen resolution

I have added to Section "Screen"

SubSection "Display"
        Viewport 0 0
        Depth 24
        Modes "1920x1080" #Resolution
EndSubSection

but it doesn't work.

Re: New monitor, low screen resolution

Provide the edid yourself then, or disable edid and use modelines instead.
