PEAR upgrade: out of memory

I'm setting up a LAMP stack for development on my LAPTOP and I've got a problem:

[root@LAPTOP ~]# pear upgrade
PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 523800 bytes) in /usr/share/pear/PEAR/Command/Install.php on line 900

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 523800 bytes) in /usr/share/pear/PEAR/Command/Install.php on line 900

I've never seen PEAR running out of memory like this on other systems. I tried upping the limit from 128M to 256M but obviously it didn't help. I don't feel like debugging those massive multi-K-line PEAR files so I thought I'd ask here. Anyone experienced something like that? Could it be a packaging problem? My only changes after PHP/PEAR installation are in php.ini file (error reporting and extra extensions).

Re: PEAR upgrade: out of memory

Anyone? Just run "pear upgrade". Does it work for you?
