ath5k does not work with my wireless card, I tried for weeks to get it working. iwlist wlan0 scan works, but attempting to connect never works. so I tried madwifi, and got it working. Reboot my notebook, and nothing seems to work, SLiM/X won't start, etc.

I get a hunch and check df, and sure enough, my root partition is FULL (7gb), and /var/log/kernel.log is 2gb, as well as everything.log.

It is repeatable every reboot. As soon as I rmmod ath5k && modprobe ath_pci, then connect, kernel.log is spammed with the above.

it looks like the problem may be with the drivers,  but if logging is your only problem, you can disable either syslog entirely, or edit syslog-ng.conf and disable everything and kernel logging.

This really isn't an option for me, in case I need those logs for other things. Is there any way to specifically disable logging for JUST madwifi?

Re: madwifi-ng spamming /var/log/kernel.log

Ugh now I feel dumb. After combing over some German Ubuntu forums trying to understand it with my terrible knowledge on the language, I noticed the madwifi package in Arch repos is out of date. I only looked at the package build date and update date, and ignored the fact that there is an SVN rev number in the version. It's 4119, and the latest is 4133.

The exact change, which I hope will help some poor Googlers (there is NOTHING on Google about this in English)... is http://madwifi-project.org/changeset/4124 .

What is Arch's policy on this? What is considered 'stable'? The madwifi package in repos is SVN, and is not considered 'stable' by madwifi team, but it's still outdated? I'm going to flag it regardless, but the 'help' on flagging packages isn't very thorough.
