[SOLVED] Display error exiting Xorg

Hello all.

I am installing via the Beginners Guide and all is going ok until X.

It seems to run ok, and startx gives me a window and a cursor that moves, and when I type "exit" into the xterm window it exits back to my tty.

The trouble is the top left corner of the tty display is placed near the middle of the screen, with lines wrapping of the right and appearing on the left. It's like the display area has shifted down and right across the screen. Also, the display doesn't scroll any more, so if i type commands they disappear off the bottom of the screen.

It stays like this even if you change tty and login/out. The only way out is to reboot.

I've read lots of posts about Xorg1.8 problems, but they all seem to be about starting Xorg, not coming out of it.

Does anybody know how the screen gets reset when you exit Xorg. Or any ideas about what is going on.

I've tried pacman -Rns, -Sc and then pacman -S to reinstall all Xorg, drivers, and other things installed in that part of the guide. But no change.

ANY IDEAS!

That is weird. I have never seen that. Seems to me that your resolution goes out of whack.

Do you by any chance have multiple monitors connected? If so, you might first want to install it and then configure dual monitors.

Re: [SOLVED] Display error exiting Xorg

High, Thanks for responding.

I don't have multiple monitors connected, but I do have a dual header video card.

I didn't have this problem with older Xorg. I've tried going back to Xorg1.7, but pacman says their is a conflict with evdev even though I thought I'd removed evdev.

Does any body know how to configure tty displays? Maybe that's a way forward.

When you enter reset, does that fix the tty?

Re: [SOLVED] Display error exiting Xorg

Thanks very much for your suggestion, but...

in the mean time I have uninstalled xf86-video-nv and replaced it with xf86-video-nouveau.
Now it seems to work fine.

I will remember 'reset' for the future, though. It is always good to learn a new command.

Thanks all.
