[SOLVED] Monitor turns off when using the xf86-video-ati driver

I have a 5670 that I'm trying to use with the xf86-video-ati driver. I've had a look around the internet, the arch wiki etc..., and it seems like it should work. Checking the xorg log seems to show it's all working too, so I assume the card is supported. However, I cannot get my monitor to even switch on as soon as X starts. I've tried with and without an x.org.conf, both without any luck. Not sure what to do next. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Do you get any errors? If so, post them here.

The only errors are:

[  1527.776] (EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory
[  1528.064] (EE) RADEON(0): Acceleration initialization failed
[  1528.410] (EE) HID 1267:0103: failed to initialize for relative axes.

Here's the full /var/log/Xorg.0.log, if it helps: http://pastebin.ca/1891044

Okay, so I finally solved it. If anyone else is looking for a solution, try enabling early KMS start, by putting

radeon.modeset=1

in the kernel options in your /boot/grub/menu.lst. More info here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ati … _.28KMS.29
