display on two moniters but 2nd moniter not detected

hello,

i have two users, nick and guest. nick uses icewm and guest uses xfce4
when i start up the computer connected to the tv it clones the display but in 1280 x720 (laptop in native 1366 x 768) and the tv screen (native 1900 x 1080) but the tv screen displays the laptop screen but it chops off a bit at the bottom. i tried in the user guest to configure the display but it doesn't show that there are two displays. and when i tried to change 1366 x 768 the resolution on the laptop changed but the tv display stopped. How can i configure my displays? (whenever i boot into guest now it change the resolution to 1366 x 768 and turns off the display)

I think you mean 1366x768

Maybe you could try using xrandr for that: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=73051 or similar..

OMFG.
Run 'xrandr', post your xorg.conf if you have one and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Re: display on two moniters but 2nd moniter not detected

I never understand why people install each and every video driver under the sun? Your card is an ATI card. So if you want open source drivers, you should only have one of the following two installed.

xf86-video-ati  or xf86-video-radeon.

If however, you want 3d support then you will need the proprietary drivers from ATI called catalyst......but please don't get me started on that hmm

Maybe the wiki said to install video-drivers.

Yes I noticed that as well. Maybe some TU/Dev thought it would be better that new users install all of them rather than we seeing a huge number of threads on graphics cards/drivers not working.

Still, I don't agree with the philosophy.
