Linux sucks

So, I didn't notice that my laptop was running on battery, which died,
and I lost my entire ~/

This wouldn't of happened on windows.

Yes, that's how linux works.

Sure windows might get some spyware, but it's not going to delete all my files.

Re: Linux sucks

It's interesting to see that an unexperienced user is using archlinux, in the first place.

There are a variety of factors which can lead to crashes, and lead to data loss, even on windows.

This will be my second time installing arch in 5 months, though my dad's xp home is going on 5 years.

Could it have been a spontaneous hard drive failure? That can happen when there have been hard shutdowns especially when batteries go out.

Well, it's your fault. Use some monitoring app.

This wouldn't of happened to me. Learn to use linux in general. Read http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/The_Arch_Way.

So, what's with the rant? Do you pay for linux? Go use windows, if it's so flawless. Cheers.

Um No.  Having at least 2 up-to-date backups of everything you cannot afford to lose is basic computing 101.

HDDs die, and at inconvenient times.  Partitions get corrupted.  These things along with death and taxes are inevitable facts of life.  It don't matter what OS you are on.

I've been using arch for a year, linux for 4 years, I'm just annoyed and drunk, so I decided to post on this forum since all of you snoody pricks would be annoyed.

I can easily say the opposite, I'm on the same Arch install for over 3 years (that's through 2 motherboards, three processors, a new hard-drive...)
without having to do a complete re-install.   whereas I've done at least 3 fresh windows installs in that same time period on my other PC.

huh.
