Midori and some pictures

I use a 0.2.6-1 version of Midori and when I use the speed dial or some "captcha" sites (like sharingmatrix.com) I get this:
http://i30.tinypic.com/300tm48.jpg
http://i27.tinypic.com/2u8bg8y.jpg

The first link shows some post which included a thumbnail or a normal "pasted" pic on the boards. The second one is the speed dial. I have added the pages to it, tried refreshing, but the "?" is still there.

So, why do I get those question mark boxes instead of pictures?

The link is broken; There is no image at that URL anymore.

Re: Midori and some pictures

The link is working fine here.

Just installed Midori to see if I'd get the same problem and I did. So far, couldn't find out why though.

EDIT: typo

Did you ever visit the link before in another browser? If so, clear the cache and try again.

Re: Midori and some pictures

Just tried it from a different machine and it's still working

EDIT: Just installed Midori on a Windows machine. Same problem.
Found the following error message in the "Console" in the sidebar:

1 @ undefined
ReferenceError:Can't find variable: setThumbnail

@skottish: do these work for you?

Re: Midori and some pictures

No such problem here with the latest midori git. And Arch Linux Forums do display properly on the speed dial.

I remember similar (although not as wide-spread) problems lately. Clearing the cache did help, however.

Re: Midori and some pictures

Clearing cache didn't help here. Maybe I should try the git version.

Re: Midori and some pictures

No, same problem with the git version. Reverting to Extra. Also, there's a problem with this site, here's the examples:
Firefox: http://i26.tinypic.com/2ztekk8.jpg
Midori: http://i26.tinypic.com/295341k.jpg

Midori is missing that panel.
Also, there seems to be no buttons for bold, italic etc here when using the Reply.

Clearing the cache isn't going to help for you with the missing image in the OP. There is no image at that link. The cache comment was JackH79 who said that it still works.

As far as Midori's speed dial goes, I have no idea. I don't have Midori installed nor do I want to.

Does this always happen? There is no such message here. According to the code in midori-git this variable is used in the /usr/share/midori/res/speeddial-head.html template.

If so probably your installation somehow got currupted. You could try to completely remove midori - including the ~/.config/midori and ~/.local/share/midori folders (just rename them to put them aside, so you can reuse your settings) and then reinstall midori from scratch.

Re: Midori and some pictures

It can't be that we both have a corrupted install. Only if we downloaded from the same mirror, but I doubt it.

Re: Midori and some pictures

Yep, acid2 doesn't even start here. Just turns all midori in grey color and hangs forever. I'm just glad that I'm not alone in the boat, so this might get fixed.
So 0.2.6 is the version that introduces all these errors?

Re: Midori and some pictures

No acid2 start to fail at 0.2.2 :
http://www.twotoasts.de/bugs/index.php? … ask_id=687

but it get worst and acid2 start to "hangs forever" at 0.2.5 (see my last post on the bug report).

To clarify this:
That error message only appeared on a Windows 7 machine where I installed Midori for testing purposes. I didn't get that error on my Arch machine.
Midori exhibited the same problems described by the OP on both my Windows ("Midori Win32 Setup v0.2.6" from twotoasts.de) and Arch (Midori from Extra) install.

completely missed that one

Re: Midori and some pictures

This bug report seemed to clarify the behaviour here as it states (in the first comment):

It shows only those thumbnails that had been there before (in earlier versions). And refuses to show the newly added ones even in cells 1-9.

But then I tried to add http://www.twotoasts.de/ - adding to the existing speed dial - and the thumbnail is shown (see here). This is on midori-git 20100725-1 (shown as Midori 0.2.6-236-ge2ac49a).

Could it be a GDK issue? I had a bunch of GDK-related warning messages with other applications from the AUR lately until I recompiled everything. Unfortunately, I cannot remember which were affected.

Nevertheless, I will try again with an empty setup later and report back.

BTW: The acid2 test does not even load here.

Edit:
OK, I tried with an empty setup. Thumbnails do show as expected (screenshot).
But I still get a bunch of GTK related error messages, like these:

$ midori

(midori:5163): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_hash_table_lookup_extended: assertion `hash_table != NULL' failed
(midori:5163): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_hash_table_insert_internal: assertion `hash_table->ref_count > 0' failed

(midori:5163): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type `<invalid>' in cast to `GtkWidget'

(midori:5163): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_hash_table_insert_internal: assertion `hash_table->ref_count > 0' failed

(midori:5163): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type `<invalid>' in cast to `GtkWidget'

Not sure, however, if this relates to the problem.

To set the record straight: The acid3 test passes 100/100 - with a few quirks, however (click on the "A" of "Acid3" for a report).

On topic:
Yesterday I did a fresh test install of midori from extra. There I can confirm the thumbnail problems. Obviously there were those thumbnails from earlier (extra/midori) installs kept whereas those attempts after the new install do not show (at least in the speed dial). It appears as if the attempt to get the thumbnail reference does fail now.

Was there an according bug report filed? FS#860 does not cover this case, imo.

As an aside, the newly created bookmark from the midori-git install was shown too big in the speed dial (the older ones stemming from the prior extra/midori install kept their appearance). Alas, you can't easily downgrade from midori-git to extra/midori because the bookmarks handler was changed to sqlite recently.
