[Solved]Using MySQL for mail users and boxes

Hey everyone, hopefully just a quick one. I've used this guide several times to set up small mail servers before, but I've just come to setting up a larger one and I'd really like to use virtual users and mailboxes in a MySQL database rather than creating a bunch of local users and directories for it all. The PostFix guide on the wiki does mention it's possible to set up PostFix and Dovecot to use a SQL database, but there's no information or links that explains how to do this. After searching through the wiki, I haven't been able to find anything so I'm a little bit stuck, though it's possible I may have missed something.

If anyone has set up their mail server in the way I'm looking for, would they be willing to provide some information or walk me through the process? I've had a quick look at the PostFix and Dovecot documentation but I don't really see too much on the matter and, well, I'll be honest and say that sometimes I have real trouble reading the documentation. Yeah, I have my moments hmm

Eventually, I plan on having people able to connect to the mail server with their mail clients (Thunderbird, Claws, Outlook etc.) to send and receive mail, as well as using Roundcube for a web interface, but I think that's a fairly easy thing to get set up. Mostly it's getting the MySQL bit sorted out that I haven't a clue with.

All help is really appreciated and sorry if I've missed something really obvious in my searches.

Kind regards,

Joel.

Wow, thanks for that. That will be very useful and I guess in this case Courier is used instead of Dovecot?
