Any advice fo a professional 802.11g wifi solution?

I know this might be a bit off-topic, but do you know of a professional wifi router/AP to serve a small enterprise?
What i have to do is connecting around 10 palm computers (to be used as bar code reader) to an SQL server.
Problem is that these palms sucks hard.. so if the connection is not super smooth they tend to freeze and go crazy...

I know that some times ago you could find professional wifi routers that offered better routing performance than the average Wallmart shit, but it seems that this market is dead at the moment.

Ultimately, do you of a better way to do this? Like using external antennas or the like?

Plus, I haven't seen a normal router anyways. They all run linux/netbsd, but you have almost no control over them. If it's an enterprize, you can build your own one, Arch powered of course
