is it safe to use -f switch.
thanks
Note: thanks pressh. As I did not subscribe to dev public, I am not aware of the solution also not in the home page. The cobalt theme prevent me to switch to home from the forum page .

Same error here. Those files don't seem to be owned by another package. Not sure where they came from.
EDIT: Like you I am using the nVidia binary driver though I had installed the driver earlier today. The last modified times of the two conflicting files matches the install time of the nVidia driver according to pacman's logs. The files appear to be empty except for a single line comment in each.

Same here. The upgrade fail. But when I use "uname -a", it show "2.6.34-ARCH" (i installed Arcg using the 2010.05 iso and the included kenel was 2.6.33.4)

What's so difficult about reading that?

Providing a link would probably make things easier.
But this should really be noted in the news.
BTW: The kernel was updated flawlessly here.

My referring to 'that' was about pressh confirming it was safe, not so much about arch-dev-public .

sorry, how do you use the -Sf?
Offline
sudo pacman -Syuf

Just add the -f flag to your usual update option:
pacman -Suf
The -f switch forces pacman to overwrite conflicting files.
And don't forget: There is a "man pacman" help. Make use of it.

Really? I hesitate to use the -y flag together with the -f.

sudo pacman -Syuf
NEVER EVER use -f along with -u
pacman -Sf kernel26 && pacman -Su
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

I just did:
# pacman -Sf kernel26
# pacman -Sf kernel26-headers
# pacman -Syu
And it broke my broadcom b43 wireless driver. Haven't really had a chance to look at it but just posting as a heads up for anyone else out there using the b43 driver.

If you havent cleared you cache, the older version of the kernel would still be there
sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/kernel26
You might need to hit tab to see which version, then select the lower version number

i havent emptied the cache ever since ive installed arch, some months now.
i tried
pacman -U kernel26-2.6.34.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
but i got an error saying
cannot open package file. i can see all the packages there too. hmm. i'll try it your way with the tabbage, not that i think it'll do any good, but you never know

you would have to give the entire path unless you cd'ed into the folder first.

The update broke my network too. Broadcom BCM4401-B0. Just get DHCP timeouts attempting to start the network with the new kernel. Needed to downgrade as I can't troubleshoot now.

I have a Broadcom BCM4322. I'm assuming I should not upgrade?
EDIT: It seems a patch has been released.

O_O
Hmm, waiting a week or so before doing an update does not seem like a bad idea...
