Seems like kernel upgrade to 2.6.34.2 not only breaks the b43 kernel module (for broadcom WiFi cards), see: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=102212
but also b44 for my wired Broadcom BCM4401 based NIC on my Dell Inspiron 9400 / E 1705 Laptop using arch x86_64
this can be fixed by downgrading to kernel 2.6.34.1
kernel.log shows messages like the following examples every few seconds / minutes since the 2.6.34.2 upgrade:
Aug 4 11:09:47 rechenknecht kernel: b44 ssb0:0: eth0: powering down PHY
Aug 4 11:09:47 rechenknecht kernel: b44 ssb0:0: eth0: BUG! Timeout waiting for bit 00000002 of register 42c to clear

karol,
the op himself is the first person to provide a solution in the thread that you linked.
@OP Please do no post issues in threads. If you have a solution (which you obviously do) provide it in the threads that already exist for the same issue.
EDIT: Looks like you posted this and then found the solution. In that case search the forums prior to posting.

There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Is the b44 on ssb, too? If so, the same fix as for b43 might help as well. See http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 15305.html and report back.
EDIT: The fixed kernel has moved to core, I assume that this fixes the b44 too.

I've got a Dell Inspiron with the BCM4401. The fixed kernel indeed solves the problem here.
