Hi all,
This is Ajay Kumar. I am a newbie to Arch Linux (though I am not a newbie to Linux). So, just wanted to say hi to all. I am very much impressed by arch linux and its packaging type. The rolling release fascinates me a lot. And I think Arch Linux rocks the Linux world. So, anyways great job friends.

Hi all,

I've been using Arch Linux for a couple of years (Linux user for longer), but never created an account here on the forum. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions and hopefully I can put my knowledge to use here to help others as well.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Former debian user here. I have been reading the forums for about a year and using Arch for 10 months, excellent experience with no major issues others that the "normal" ones.
I' m running Arch in my personal laptop and my zotac ion HTPC (arch + xbmc) at home plus an Archlinux Vm at work.

The main reason to stay with Arch has been the wiki page ,the great community and the concept behind Arch (kiss)

Big fan of the open source projects, unfortunately there are not (none from my knowledge) many  open source project available for my daily tasks. I'm a mining engineer.
Currently living in Brisbane/Australia , born in Santiago/Chile
Thanks,

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hey everybody,

I'm still a relative newbie to Linux. I've played with it off and on for a few years, but didn't become a convert until I discovered Linux Mint. I've used it since version 7, which was based on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty.

I've been aware of Arch for a long time, but the thought of trying to install and use it used to scare the crap out of me! smile But as much as I like Linux Mint, I was ready to move on to another distro where I could really learn Linux. I've spent the last five days getting Arch configured to my satisfaction, and I'm pretty happy with it now. It is the only OS currently on my system. I know I am repeating what many others have said before, but the Arch wiki and forums are both just fantastic!

Anyway, I look forward to learning more about Arch and Linux generally and I hope I'll be knowledgeable enough soon to be able to assist others here in the forums.

BTW, the cat in the photo that serves as my avatar is my cat wife Tasha, my friend and companion for 11 wonderful years so far, and hopefully for several more! smile

Jeff

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

O hai thar!

I'm new to Arch, too (though I've already tried it within VirtualBox). My nickname is - as you might have already seen - Weegee (you all know the meme, don't you?), I'm from Germany, and it looks like I'm one of the younger Arch Linux users? Only 16 years of wisdom are typing this message here.

After switching from several bloated Linux distros to minimalist ones I finally ended up using Arch Linux. Everything runs smoother (and faster) than on other distros, the Wiki (and therefore the whole documentation) is gorgeous and the community seems to be very helpful. I quickly got used to the new habits (pacman instead of apt-get/dpkg/aptitude/gdebi, AUR instead of PPAs, ...) and meanwhile I really enjoy using Arch Linux :D

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone!

For a long time i was looking for a rolling release distro, that would not be so complicated as Gentoo, and wouldnt use .rpm. And i found Arch Linux. I was using it on my laptop for a few weeks, and now i have it on my PC smile. I hope community would be as much helpful, as wiki is (IMO one of the greatest in linux history) wink.

Hello everyone!

A buddy at university has been trying to get me to switch to Arch for a few months now and I finally did.  So far, I'm really enjoying it but I'm coming from Fedora so there's definitely a learning curve.  I hope to learn a lot from all of you and hopefully contribute someday in the near future.

Cheers!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hey Arch community!

I'm a recent convert to Arch but have been browsing these forums longer than I can remember. Been on Ubuntu for a long long time before finally making the jump. Very happy with Arch. Has everything I need, nothing I don't. I'm a self taught Linux fan so I can't contribute a whole lot to the community but my shining personality. I mostly started using Arch because it forced me to learn a lot about Linux and has a great community, smaller than the Ubuntu crowd but much more active. Hope to see more of what Arch has to offer!

I like the idea of a more customized distro for my taste, but didnt want to put in the extra time of going with gentoo. So here i am.I have a ati 4850 card hope i can get compiz to work right.anyway thanks for yall contribution to the linux world. Going to download and install now. Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone! Currently installing Arch on my former dual boot Ubuntu/Windows 7 machine...I decided to take the plunge and start from ground zero with a Linux I could learn a lot from - this appears to be the right choice so far! smile

Currently setting up the wireless..I have never had to run a dhcpcd command manually before. Maybe I'm just geeky but I think this is awesome.

Anyway, howdy all, nice to meet you. I might stop in the irc channel later, but I don't want to be tempted to ask for help unless I really am stuck.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Just recently install Arch with KDE for the Desktop and I
have to say it's working out really good, I enjoy it a lot.

I figure I would also let everyone know that I tinkered around
with other Distro's and found Ubuntu to be very cool.

I then found Arch and all my wildest dreams came true

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

I switched to Arch over a month ago, but I never got around to posting in this thread. (In fact, I think this is my first post in the forums at all).

I switched one of my computers to Arch from Ubuntu because I heard very good things about the distro and the community, and I wanted to give The Arch Way a try.

As you can see, I've stuck around, and I think I'll be using Arch for a while. big_smile

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everybody,

iam using ARCH for about 4 month now and its really great. After jumping from one distro to another in the last years, ive heard of arch and tried it. Nice easy and small install, only the necessary stuff, great administration, helpful and detailed documentation and a very friendly community ive seen so far. I wanna thank all those who have made this disro possible and those who are currently working on it.

Best regards Hef

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone,

I have come to Arch from Ubuntu because Ubuntu has dropped support for OpenVZ from its kernel. I am evaluating Arch as a potential replacement for Ubuntu and so far I like the low level flexibility that it would appear to offer.

Being Linux, however, I expect hurdles even in Arch and I have to admit to falling at the first: the installer failed to locate the CD after booting. I did find a solution however so I have got back on my feet unfazed, dusted off and am now heading down the Arch track...

I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has experience of OpenVZ within Arch Linux. I realise this will require me to immediately build a custom kernel (which doesn't scare me - done many times before). I expect my second post here will be about building kernels smile
