Hello everyone.
I'm using Arch because I found it more simple and fast (and IMHO quite easy to use) than distributions I've been using before (Ubuntu, Debian and Slackware, in this order).
I have about 3 years experience with Linux, yet I consider myself as a newbie. I hope this forum will help me learn more about Linux, and I will be able to help others too.

Greetings,
I've been using Arch linux for 3.5 years atm with windows at dual-boot.
It is my first linux distribution I've really enjoyed and first I've ever used for longer than a few hours.
At the first time the installation process took me a week or so on 128kbps ISDN modem and with Begginers Guide in my hand. This installation works to this day with KDE and all necessary stuff downloaded on that modem . I must admit that thanks to the Arch Linux Forums, Wiki and whole community I obtained general knowledge about how things work in Linux and how to solve more complicated problems using just your head and text editor aka NANO
Arch Linux is recommended for more advanced users, after Ubuntu and before Slackware, but IMHO it should be recommended for everyone that want to learn linux in general and avoid a lot of frustration when trying to get things to work in Ubuntu Arch simply works, that's all...
What I like in Arch linux? It is extremly flexible, stable, lightweight and I know what apps are installed in it.

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie. Kinda of reminds me of the Nickelodeon cartoon show my kiddos watch every now and again called "rocket power." And y'all probably don't know what I'm talking about but I'm just assuming someone will actually read this. Anyways, happy to be here. Hope to give something and to get something back out of it all.

Hi all! And I'm not a newbie . Proud Arch user for ~2 years. Before that there was a little adventure with Debian. Cheers!

Greetings!
I have used linux for about two years now. What started my dive into linux began with a kiddy pool in duelbooting with ubuntu 9.04. It was a month later when I deleted vista for good, and I started to delve deeper into linux.
After going to 9.10, I decided to distro hop, and tried kubuntu, openSUSE, linux mint, debian, and fedora, seeing how different the experiences are. When I initially tried arch, the setup annoyed me a bit because I was used to being spoon fed, but the wiki helped in getting Horus [my PC] up and running.
I love the speed, and the control I have over my system. I dont plan in swapping distros any more

At the end I found the distro. I used for a long time Linux, especially Mint but it was time to change.
I hated these release cycles and now Im happy with Arch.
Ok, I had to configure and configure and... to spend more time as I supposed to bring my system to work.
But it works, I have some trouble too but I hope to solve the problem in my new community.

Hello, been using Slackware since maybe 2003-2004. Was always interested in Arch Linux but had no reason to switch distros cuz Slack worked. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
But curiousness got the best of me and i installed Arch. I really enjoy it so far. Really simple to config, pacman reminds me of swaret back in the day. Still gotta get the hang of AUR and building packages, but that will come in due time. Hopefully i can help contribute and maintain packages one day.

Hello everyone,
no noob blood from me - sorry . I got unixified some 15 years ago, so my track record includes experience with various Linux distributions, Open- and FreeBSD as well as (Open)Solaris and AIX. However, I am no unix professional - it's all leisure time activity, comprising maintenance of some internet servers and programming all sort of stuff - preferably C programs and shell scripts noone actually needs .
Some months ago, Arch Linux became my major desktop OS as a replacement for FreeBSD (my machine is growing old and doesn't like compiling big stuff like OpenOffice, Qt, etc. anymore). I had occasionally used Arch Linux before, but never on a desktop.
Some key facts about me:
Preferred drink: coffee (tea is for emacs users)
Preferred editor: vi(m) (emacs is for tea drinkers)
Preferred server OS: FreeBSD (I could say now AIX is for tea-drinking emacs users, but I guess this wouldn't be fair )
Preferred desktop OS: Arch Linux (hope that's been clear by now )

¡Saludos Archeros!
I installed Arch on my old laptop last night, and so far I've been continually delighted by how right it feels. All the latest in futuristic Linuxey goodness, with the distinctly BSD feel of "This box is mine. Of course it's perfect: I built it that way."

Hello, everyone!
I'm Ryan, I first messed with Linux about a year ago, had Ubuntu installed for a week, then went back to Windows. Six months ago, I decided to start using Linux again (Mostly because I realized Microsoft wouldn't support XP forever, lol). I, again, started with Ubuntu, and learned all the basics of using Linux. At the same time, I became hooked and can't stand using Windows anymore . About 3 months ago, I started looking for other distros, Tried out Mandriva, OpenSuSE, and Fedora. None of these seemed to work as well as Ubuntu, so I figured I'd try what Ubuntu was based off of. I've ended up using Debian Sid since then (I had learned about rolling releases and thought it sounded like exactly what I wanted, plus, I like bleeding edge!). Unfortunately some packages I use consistently haven't been working properly for several weeks now, so I thought I'd try out a new distro. So far, in my first 48 hours of Arch, I can't believe I've never tried it before! Everything worked, I had no excess of packages I had no need for, it was fast, and I learned a lot about Xorg and how daemons are loaded! Thanks for the awesome distro!
Also, @daemotron: I'm a tea-drinking Vi(m) user...

Hi
Been posting here already but should have introduced myself first. I'm a 27 year old Swede and for the moment a student. On my free time I do kyokushin karate and try to learn as much as possible about Linux.
I've been using Linux more frequently for the past year and done some distro hopping until I found out about Arch and Xmonad wich made me fall in love so to say. Never had expected things would be so difficult to set up a system, but hopefully there is help to get here.
Well with that said I hope to get along well with the members here and that you all have patient with my questions. I'm still a noob, but willing to learn

Hello all!
I'm not new to Linux, but until recently I've only used Arch on a friend's computer. I'm now going through the process of configuring and tweaking things to my liking. So far I'm quite pleased with Arch's philosophy, and have learned a lot just from being forced to do more manually than I have with other distros.
I'll be here mostly for help in the beginning, but plan to stay active and help others as I get better.

Hello!
I'm Chris from Aachen/Germany and using linux for a couple of years. I startet on SuSE, then switched to Ubuntu 6.06 - when this distro was nice and fancy, but meanwhile it's too heavy for my 7 years old pc - and some weeks ago I put Arch on both my eee 701 and my desktop.
Cheers

Hi there!
I'm using Arch Linux since 2008, always reading the wiki and forums when I get problems, but now I have the time to learn more complicated stuff so I decided start asking questions.

* Hello Everyone message
Hi everyone!
My name is Charles. I'm just getting started with Arch. After two
failed attempts to install, on my third try I followed all the
instructions and got it working. This weekend I'll finish installing
the packages I need, then move my data over and start working with it
for day-to-day use.
Then I'll be talking about it. I'm one of the hosts of mintCast
(http://www.mintcast.org).
I've been using Linux for about 5 years now. So far I've stuck with
Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, Mandriva and Mint. These distros do a good job of
insulating the user from the system. I've come to the sad realization
that I don't actually know much of anything about Linux. So now I want
a distro that will make me learn some new things.
Arch sounds like it could be the distro I need. The install process
has already been educational. I also like the idea of a rolling
distro.
I'm not sure how this is going to go over with the mintCast
listeners. However, I have heard from some listeners who are Arch
users. Three different users have separately told me to "fall in love
with Arch."
I've already started posting some short articles on the mintCast site
about getting started with Arch. Feel free to read and comment. And to
keep me honest, if I say something incorrect or incomplete. It
wouldn't be the first time. I'll be posting more articles as I go
along, and will talk about it on the show more extensively after I've
had some time to really use it.
Charles

Hello Arch World!
This forum helped me a lot so far.
I'm a Arch and Linux newbie, and maybe a English writer newbie too.
I hope to learn with this community and i'll try to contribute along the road.

Hello Everyone,
I have been using linux since 2002 when I first installed Red Hat Linux 9.0 (shrike) in my computer. After that hopped over a lot of distros and my first interaction with Arch Linux was when I installed the version (Don't Panic). Somehow our connection severed as I could not give the time it demands to setup my system properly. After that I went through Debian and Ubuntu (liked the latter since it was simple to setup and does most of configuration by itself..). Now that I have some time, I am back in Arch and boy I am loving it now. The rolling release model of Arch comes with its pros and cons though but somehow I like the philosophy behind it. If one is careful enough, he/she won't have to format his/her hard-drive. Which is unlike to Ubuntu that asks you to upgrade every six months.
While I am not against this, but personally I don't like this way.
Once again, hats off to arch developers. You guys rock.
Thanks to the developers and all the Community members to make this distro what it is today. My respects to all of you.
Keep it simple, stupid

Hello folks
I am Fizk (no that is not my real name, just felt like a strange sounding user name).
I have been using Linux for a couple of years now...started off with Ubuntu and now I am going to try Arch.. Yay! \o/
That is as long as I can get it to work... because for now Acer timelineX 3820TG has proven to be a tricky hardware for linux... but I am sure that I will manage to sort things out (probably with some help from the forum ).
Cheers!
