[SOLVED] -Syu failing to detect upgrated to kernel

Hello,

For the past day's I've been  successfully using -Syy and -Syu to upgrade Arch. However, starting last night I get this error when doing -Syu:

:: Synchronizing package databases...
 core is up to date
 extra is up to date
 community is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: open-vm-tools-modules: requires kernel26<2.6.35

Suddenly I realize that not only has the kernel being updated 4 days ago, but during this whole time, pacman was upgrading packages without ever detecting the new kernel version. Only now that a dependency exists, am I getting this error.

I tried different mirrors from mirrorlist, including mirrors.kernel.org, and I get the same output after syncing and doing -Syu.

How can I solve this?

I probably made this post longer than it should only because I lack the time to make it shorter.

Well maybe it took some time for the mirrors to sync? The dependency most likely was there before, or did you just install open-vm-tools-modules some days ago? Just resolve the dependency issue and update to 2.6.35

Is there already a open-vm-tools package for 2.6.35?

 pacman -Si open-vm-tools-modules
[...]
Depends On     : kernel26>=2.6.34  kernel26<2.6.35

doesn't look like it, but you can flag it out of date at the arch packages site.

Re: [SOLVED] -Syu failing to detect upgrated to kernel

Thanks. I now fully understand that error type.

I've -Rns open-vm-tools and am now upgrading properly. Should have to wait for a new open-vm-tools, I guess

Re: [SOLVED] -Syu failing to detect upgrated to kernel

Removing a useful package is no way to go. I got a similar error on nvidia-96xx on 1 of my machines. I haven't upgraded the kernel on that machine. I am first going to find a version of nvidia-96xx that works and then upgrade. -- and yes I know there is a security flaw in the 2.6.34 kernel.

I'll have to agree. I regreat the decision. I should have moved kernel26 to the ignore list instead. I've lost a strong usability tool now.

Re: [SOLVED] -Syu failing to detect upgrated to kernel

Ok. I was able to downgrade to kernel 2.6.34.3-1 thanks to this awesome Wiki we have here. open-vm-tools-modules was the only dependency so it was an easy downgrade.

I reinstalled open-vm-tools and added kernel26 to the ignore list. I love the fact that, regardless, pacman warns me of the kernel upgrade it is ignoring. Precious!
Meanwhile had also flagged open-vm-tools-modules as out-of-date a couple of hours ago.

Problem entirely solved. Thanks folks.
