Reposiroty links: $arch instead of i686/x86_64

I've seen some links to other repositories in the ArchWiki, It is sometimes written like this:

for i686:
[archlinuxfr]
Server = http://repo.archlinux.fr/i686

for x86_64:
[archlinuxfr]
Server = http://repo.archlinux.fr/x86_64

However, it can be simpler:

for all architectures:
[archlinuxfr]
Server = http://repo.archlinux.fr/$arch

I'm not sure where is the best place to write this text to.

It's a wiki. If you think sth is wrong, you change it.

Re: Reposiroty links: $arch instead of i686/x86_64

if you are using pacman >3.3 then the $arch variable is recognized. If you use an older version then you need to explicitly tell pacman what architecture you have.

Was that your question ? and all this should go in the pacman.conf

karol: Yes, I know it. I've changed it on two pages (Yaourt and ATI). I just wanted to tell others to use the simple way.

Inxsible: OK, I didn't know it. It is maybe the reason why there are such things. I hope that nobody is using the old version.

I would hope so too. but pacman recently got upgraded --maybe about 3-4 weeks back IIRC. I guess all the pages in the wiki haven't been updated completely. However, using i686 or x86_64 in your mirrorlist is also NOT wrong. If you know what architecture you have you can list it outright in the mirrorlist and it will also work.

Thanks :-) The wiki is a community project and it relies on some good folks hunting down any leftover configs from the previous versions and the like.

Yes, it is correct, but it probably isn't the best way.
