[SOLVED] Reiserfs and /var

Hello,
I am new to the forum and new to Arch. My question is simply why I can't seem to get a fresh install of Arch to recognize and mount the reiserfs file system? I also was curious as to whether ext 4 or jfs is faster. I want a fast boot and fast system, which is why I came to Arch.

Thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Reiserfs and /var

when you say that Arch does not recognize reiserfs, what do you exactly mean? are you getting any errors? If so post them here. start with /var/log/Xorg.0.log

as for which filesystem is faster, it depends on the types of files you put in that partition. For more info, search the wiki for relevant articles.

Re: [SOLVED] Reiserfs and /var

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I have no concise errors, as I installed using jfs. I can however tell you that this happens at filesettings and mount point. It fails to read and/or mount.

Re: [SOLVED] Reiserfs and /var

I forgot to mention that I plan on doing a full reinstall, so no matter what the answer is, I really don't mind a fresh install....made a bad move on the last install anyway due to being tired....sorta switched my swap and home partitions:))

Re: [SOLVED] Reiserfs and /var

I am going to try again, but the main problem will still exist. I appreciate the swift responses, but as I said, the mounting and blocking refuses to read or mount reiserfs as a viable FS for /var. Seems to want me to rollback, which I do, for the same end result.

Re: [SOLVED] Reiserfs and /var

I'd go with ext4.
Booting fast means also not having too many daemons and having most of them backgrounded - put '@' in front of a daemon in your DAEMONS array in rc.conf to background it.

Re: [SOLVED] Reiserfs and /var

Thanks all for the help...resolved my issue with downloading the 2009 iso and installing from it....there seems to be an issue with the 2010 iso, maybe I had a bad burn or something. The issue is resolved

Congrats!

You can mark the thread as solved by editing the first post and prefixing [SOLVED] to your subject line.

However, I am surprised that you had issues with the 2010 iso. I used it to install Arch on one of my machines as well and used reiserfs on my /var hmm

Re: [SOLVED] Reiserfs and /var

Inxsible....problem wasn't the install cd, my hard drive was dying.....just overlooked that because it was fairly new....anyway, got a new hard drive, Arch is reinstalled, and have never been happier!  Sometimes the simplest answer, no matter how difficult it is to see or fathom, is the right answer.
