It seems that I am not the only one that happens.

just for my curiosity, can you paste the output of cat /proc/cpuinfo ?

ok, your cpu doesn't have hardware virtualization. can you enable multilib repo and install lib32-gcc-libs?

Out of curiosity, why are you using OSE? Ideological purity? The PUEL edition is free for individual use.

For convenience of being at the repositories and perhaps also by ideology as you said. Anyway, the question is that in some specific cases, the program does not work.

Also the OSE Version integrates much better in the Desktop. The PUEL Version seems to take the default look of Qt4 and look like an Alien in the end...
also the OSE Version is in the official stable repository and the PUEL Version in the Unsupported User Repository
at least a lot of people maybe dont need the PUEL Features so why should they take the Unsupported AUR Version which looks like an Alien?

Hello all,
Has there been any progress on this? Virtualbox seems to be completely unusable with x86_64, at least if everyone on x86_64 is experiencing the bug that igallart describes and I can confirm.

I have this problem too, but it is there only when I have amd-v/svm disabled in bios. Try to enable Secure Virtual Machine in bios. It may help you until it is resolved.

not yet, the oracle guys are not very helpful and i first want to be sure that is not my fault before asking for help in mailing list.
my guesses are that is a gcc 4.5. issue. i tried to build myself a gcc 4.4 toolchain and i sucked

Same problem here. I would suggest trying ask in the mailing lists, I'm sure they will be very helpful.
Switching back to PUEL for the time being.
Keep us posted!

Awesome, thanks. I'll try it out and report back later.
Just out of curiosity, what was the problem?

It turns out that the VMMGC.gc module contained SSE code, in translation, wrong gcc flag is activated by default when compiling 32 bit stuff.

Sorry for the bad news, but whenever I try to start one of my VMs, my machine either locks up or reboots... :-(

Because of that error message, I am currently using QEMU instead. Found it relatively uncomplicated without much graphical deterrence.
