Sorry about this but my searches (including AUR[1]) didn't turn anything in... How do you install the google voice plugin in Arch? I can unpack their deb (thru deb2targz) and see the files inside, but I can't figure out what file goes exactly where
I'm using both Opera, Chromium, and Firefox (mostly Chromium).

Thanks in advance

I installed this just yesterday. I've got google voice working on Ubuntu, but my Arch install is having issues with sound atm.

Anybody using the gmail call feature - http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/c … gmail.html - on Arch. The voice and chat plugin provided by Google is a deb package. Has anybody managed to get this to work on Arch?

I just installed it from AUR and it works perfectly. On the Settings > Chat tab in gmail, you can check if your webcam is detected and also test video and audio.

huge: which package did you install from AUR?
I searched for packages and there are some: googletalk, google-talkplugin, gvcall and maybe there are more.
which of them works on firefox?

google-talkplugin
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Is it possible to video chat with gmail contacts in pidgin without using the googlechat plugin for web browsers?

No pidgin doesn't support this yet. I think empathy might. Don't quote me on that.

Did anyone get gmail voice plugin finally working? I installed the AUR package from http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40056 , but I'm not sure if this is the right plugin as gmail tells me to install the plugin.

The Microphone doesn't work for me. In the gmail settings>chat>voice and video dropdown for microphone I see no such selection for the microphone. Anyone else have issues with this?

See this : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=982212
I have to explicitly load soundcore for my mic to work. Put it in the MODULES array in rc.conf

I tried modprobing soundcore but it didn't do anything. Any other ideas? When I test the sound in the gmail settings, I hear a ringing sound when the appropriate driver is selected. Then, when I save the settings and try to make a call, there is no sound at all no ringing). If I return to the settings, it seems that the setting is not saved and the drop down is set back to "default device".
Have you successfully made calls in gmail chat inxsible? I do recall this working for me before... back in Gnome 2. Hmmm...

im using chromium and when i try to start a call, it gives me the "click here to add voice/video chat" thing.. I've been trying to get skype working for the past year on Arch, and still no luck... its a pain in the ass. Keep this thread alive, its an issue that alot of people are having.
Arch - pronounced 'ark' as in Architecture.

I could only use google talk plugin without pulseaudio.
so if you have pulseaudio installed lose it and use alsa only.
it should work
Offline
what are the chances of getting it into the official repos?
Offline
i have no problems with it in pulseaudio (calls to normal phones, videochat, hangouts in g+, etc), but i installed it some time ago, the version is google-talkplugin 2.0.6.0-1

Is anybody here having problems with sound? I verified that video and my mic work with google-talkplugin, but I cannot get any sound through my speakers or jack when making a call (although at the same time sound works everywhere else).
