Wildly out of date mirror

After running the script a few years ago to find the fastest mirror, I've been using ftp://mirror.cs.vt.edu/pub/ArchLinux/$repo/os/x86_64 as my mirror. But I just tried upgrading and it kept complaining about elfutils not being found, although a search for it found it in core. So I commented vt.edu out and am now using the next one in the list, ftp://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archli … /os/x86_64. Now I have 3gb of upgrades, including kernel and everything.

What happened? Even a pacman -yy didn't correctly update from vt.edu. I had to do a pacman -yy using uwaterloo. What did I do wrong and how can I avoid it? Did the vt.edu site just stop getting updated?

Re: Wildly out of date mirror

Doesn't look like it's updated anymore.

Thanks,

Re: Wildly out of date mirror

I was using the same mirror as well. But ever since Arch went to a 2 tier mirror system, cs.vt.edu has stopped updating.

I have started using the rit.edu mirror now.

Re: Wildly out of date mirror

Ah, that explains it. And good to know about the mirror status page.

It's been so long since I ran it I forget the name, but does any one know what the script is called that finds the fastest mirrors?

It's on the wiki:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mir … and_status

Simply googling Arch and Mirrors does the trick.

Re: Wildly out of date mirror

BTW if your'e concerned about a mirror's up-to-dateness, you should use reflector.
