dyndns and sucky routers

ok, well, my router has the ability to sync with dyndns (et al), which I find kinda cool.  However, it won't resolve it's external IP when doing so, and the router is on the other end of a pppoe connection... that is:

[internet] <-A-> [modem] <-B-> [router] <-C-> [local network]

connection A is the ip I want... the modem at connection B is on 192.168.0.X, the router on 192.168.1.X, and the network at connection C is on 192.168.1.X

when I setup the router to use dyndns, it reports it's IP address as 192.168.1.X - which I don't want... and this router/modem combo doesn't work well any other way...

so is there another way to talk to dyndns? some daemon or something?
