For many years the BB codes were shown above while the user typed his post.
I do not find these codes provided in that manner in recent months.
Is there a method to cause them to be shown while posting?

Not anymore. There is a link that you can click on and it will show you the codes that you are looking for.
Also this has been discussed earlier in th forums and wiki section.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Perhaps there is a way to provide these codes while posting?
An old man am I with shrinking memory for fine details...really appreciated the former display of the codes.

Yes, but if upstream (forum software) doesn't provide it, Arch devs don't modify / patch it. It's also a part of The Arch Way.

It does. The buttons aren't there. But the link exists where you can see what BBCodes you want to use. The difference is that you have to type them in now as opposed to clicking a button.
Do you notice the links below your post textarea?
BBCode on [img] tag: on Smilies: on

The buttons are selectable but don't provide a "wiki" method of utilizing any of the codes as was the case previously.
I don't have a printer so cannot provide a listing of those codes to refer to when posting.
So I don't use them?

You add the link I provided to your bookmarks and open it in another tab / window.
You can write it down too, it's just a couple short lines.

if you click on the link, it will open it in a new tab or page...you can then keep referring to them as you feel necessary.
Seriously though, there is only 2 types of BBCodes that you will mostly need
[code ] [/code ]
AND
[quote ] [/quote ]
without the spaces of course.

I don't know how do you compose posts, I use vim and then I paste the text into the form on the forum. You can use come kind of templates or auto-completion.
Somebody will remind you, if you forget [code ] tags when posting some longer piece of code :-)

It should be easy with mos browsers, though. As I type this I have another tab open which loaded after a click on the "BBCode" link in the "Post Reply" window (using midori actually, but any other browser I know of would do as well, in another window, perhaps). There all BBCodes are listed and I can look them up on the fly by just switching windows.
This method even works in text only browsers (elinks at least, just tried it)
To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.

I have to double-click I have discovered...................
