Re: DeaDBeeF - Lightweight Audio Player

I just wanted to mention that I have been using deadbeef in pekwm, e17, and gnome as my default music player there. It is awesome! I remember always getting frustrated before because I couldn't find a good music player for gtk that did the things that I wanted and did them well without a lot of overhead and fuss.

Occasionally while I am playing in KDE (and trying to run KDE with out qt/kde apps) I find myself wishing amarok was more like deadbeef.

So kudos to you man, you are awesome.

Re: DeaDBeeF - Lightweight Audio Player

Sorry if this is too noob, but I can't find a way to sort the columns... if I click on one (like almost every application) it only change places. I've been looking for some "sort" option but I don't find it.

Good work, congrats! :)

pablox, try to click it without moving column.. it has very low dragndrop threshold.

Re: DeaDBeeF - Lightweight Audio Player

I tried but without luck hmm. In fact, sometimes when I click the column moves to the left.

m4a and wma are not working for me anymore-- any suggestion? (I remember that before the 0.4.1 version I've been able to play them)

alf, no, there's no plugin for ipods, and i have no plans making it (maybe someone else will develop it though..)

Re: DeaDBeeF - Lightweight Audio Player

A really "fresh" media-player. Very cool looking.
One thing though....the equalizer is....well, huge. When maximized is OK, but when the player is minimized the equalizer takes a lot of space (in height).

snapshot12s.th.png

It can be disabled yes, but OTOH I like it too much smile Wish I can find a way to reduce its height on half (maybe before compiling?)

And one small question (just a question, not a request smile ): Are there any plans to include some kind of visualization in the future? (some kind of classic vumeters or similar would be fantastic)

Tried a LOT of players since old Amarok's demise, but this the first one that convinced me. Keep up the great work and thanks!

Re: DeaDBeeF - Lightweight Audio Player

FINALLY! Man, I can FINALLY stop using Foobar (through WINE)! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!

There's only one little thing missing for me right now... The almighty convolver plugin (foo_convolve.dll). I use it to create the perfect equalization, and even though we (see me joining the DeaDBeeF movement) do have the SuperEQ, the convolver can do the same job (with handmade wavs to fit) with much less CPU usage.

This is the first Linux audio player that has managed to replace Foobar2000 for me. It's been a long desert run, but the day has finally come.

Great work, I'm gonna spread the word!

Re: DeaDBeeF - Lightweight Audio Player

@waker - would it be possible to add a feature where DeadBeef remembers the song and timeline position when its closed? This way I can close DeadBeef for whatever reason, and the next time I start it, I can continue listening to my music right where I left it.

Yes, that would be great. Currently it remembers the view position in the playlist, which is better than nothing I guess.

Also, when using "Stop after this track" it would be nice if the cursor advanced to the next track (like Foobar does.) This is so that we don't end up re-playing the same track after closing/reopening deadbeef.

...But I get a feeling waker will tell us this is not the place for suggestions smile.

Not sure about cover support, but multimedia keys are already supported. I use them as global shortcuts. I am not on my linux box right now, but I think its under Edit --> Preferences --> Global Shortcuts

Re: DeaDBeeF - Lightweight Audio Player

Is it possible to run deadbeef without the GUI?

I've read in the "about" section:
"[...]is an audio player for GNU/Linux systems with X11 (though now it also runs in plain
console without X, in FreeBSD, and in OpenSolaris)."

From this I infer that it might be possible to run it through console in Linux as well?
If so - how?

Re: DeaDBeeF - Lightweight Audio Player

tabelle, you can blaсklist or delete gtkui plugin, then deadbeef will run without gui, and it won't even require X to be started.
however, this is not a supported feature, until some kind of alternative curses UI is emplemented - usability is very low, no way to manage playlists, and most features are unavailable.
playback should work though.

This is the main reason I hate all audio player (GUI based) on Linux, there's nothing audio player like foobar2000. Simple, minimalistic yet powerful.
I'll try it now, thanks to dev to make this happen in Arch smile

Oh wow, and to think I made all the effort of creating a bash script for each action (calling deadbeef --next etc) and binding that to a key using xenv and the dwm config
