Lenovo X200

Most things work out of the box, only had to configure some things manually:
- volume keys (via openbox keybinding using amixer set ...)
- middle mouse scroll with trackpoint (evdev xorg.conf)

Suspend/Hibernate and the fingerprint reader don't work, but haven't tried anything yet (only installed pm-utils, but that didn't do the trick on its own ;-) )

Samsung N130 Netbook, works almost flawlessly with Arch.

Wireless (RTL8192) is a little flaky and often won't work after suspends, but nothing that I can't live with.
Webcam is perfect (although not a great webcam to begin with, but nonetheless), ethernet is flawless, in integrated intel graphics work well (although visualboyadvance is a little slow, but World of Goo runs perfectly so it's probably the emulator), touchpad works beautifully with the driver from the repos.

The only thing that decides not to work is the mic. I couldn't get it to work even on Ubuntu. It may or may not actually be broken, but I wouldn't see why. I'd test it on Windows to see if it made any difference, but I really don't feel like having to install it on my netbook.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, volume and brightness keyboard shortcuts work OOTB on vanilla gnome, as does the mute and monitor buttons. I'm not brave enough to test the wireless, sleep and suspend buttons while halfway through downloading things, so if anyone's interested then let me know and I'll post results.

EDIT 2: Mic works well now, I stupidly forgot to try alsamixer because I presumed I'd already tried it. It didn't work in Ubuntu a few months ago at all though, so it's nice to have now. And also nice to not have to reboot to use Window$ for Skype calls!

My machine (a tablet PC) is a Fujtisu T900, 8GB RAM, 160GB Intel X25-M SSD. Naturally, I never booted it in Windows, and installed Arch immediately. There was an option for multitouch, but that has lower maximum screen brightness, so I went with the outdoor viewable screen. The screen is 13.3" with 1280x800 resolution.

Linux runs perfectly. Bluetooth, wifi, ethernet, sd card reader, the webcam, microphone (dual-array), all tablet buttons (with the fjbtndrv package, see the Arch wiki), multimedia buttons (configured with my WM, XMonad), synaptics trackpad, and wacom screen, all work. I haven't had even a ThinkPad tablet that worked this good in Linux. The only thing that doesn't work (but I hope will someday) is the scroll sensor on the screen, which, like the scroll sensor on the trackpad, would let you have a scroll wheel in tablet mode.

I don't know if it would have been this easy had I opted for multitouch. I'm not sure how good multitouch is in Linux (my last tablet, an X61, had resistive touch, which worked perfectly), but I know it's coming along.

I haven't experimented with the fingerprint reader, so that may or may not work. Would rather not make it work, as my screen is a glossy display, and loves fingerprints .

In dmesg there was a bug "MP-BIOS BUG **** timer ... " , however it was fixed by updating the BIOS to the latest version.

Sound
Sound doesn't work out of the box. So, to get it working, add the following to the /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

option snd-hda-intel model=3stack

This should work for such specs:

Lenovo ThinkPad T410 with an i7. Everything runs fine. Even the webcam just worked out of the box.

There was a single issue before i could install arch. Lenovo decided to no longer provide a recovery DVD to restore the pc to the factory defaults, but to put the stuff on a Partition instead. This annoying partition is at the END of the partition table and somehow protected from access by fdisk, which made fdisk not work at all. For some models there seems to be a BIOS setting to disable that protection, but for mine there wasn't. However there was a way to put the backup on DVD and remove the partition in a context window in windows. After that:

Lenovo ThinkPad x100e (First "ultraportable" ThinkPad) - All working

Took me a couple weeks but basically everything is running smoothly. I've managed to get power consumption down to 14W-16W on average, which is well under what the average reported under windows is.

Full working notes are linked to in the thread below and I'm working on a cut down version of those notes for the wiki entry.

All hardware is working (webcam, speakers, headphones, screen backlight, wifi, all hotkeys including Thinkpad mute). Wifi was the trickiest thing but I feel confident that my current solution is working (using the intel 5100 iwlagn driver, bleeding edge, iw for power management).

Video playback at 720p is great. Will be running some 1080 tests as well.

Works splendidly, except for these minor caveats:

1. pre 2.6.35 kernels gave me random freezes which I could not trace back to hardware failure.
It was resolved after updating to said kernel.

2. Wifi uses ath9k driver. Depending on its version, it can sometimes randomly increase the CPU load by a lot.
It went away after I updated the driver with the latest snasphot from madwifi. See here:

3. The webcam has the picture upside down in programmes demanding libv4l1 instead of 2
(most notably aMSN and Skype -- there are not many of them). This can easily be fixed by
telling each programme which has the issue to use the old driver like this:

Example for Skype:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

4. the nvidia card shows screen tearing in videos when using compositing (tested with xcompmgr, Kwin, compiz and Xfce).
Kwin didn't have the problems for a while, but they seem to return every time I update the proprietary drivers.
The proprietary drivers give the best results. nouveau never worked for me.

Dell XPS 1210 with onboard graphics. Works all more or less flawless. Sound and flash sometimes crap up - I think it's a Chromium issue. I haven't tried hibernating yet, as I'm happy with suspend. Other than that everything seems to work. Oh yeah, I can't be bothered to set up the media buttons. Should be easy though to set the keymaps if you care. Wifi hasn't been a problem as far as I can tell - surprise, surprise...

Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5965. Avoid Toshiba laptops like the plague; they've resolved not to support Linux at all. I'm still working out how to build a custom kernel with a hacked DSDT, so I can switch my cooling fan on, rather than throttle my cpu down to minimum power all the time. Also, sleep on lid close doesn't work, and when I use sleep via the power button or main menu, the system won't wake up. Pain in my ass.
