Which www daemon do you use, and why?

I currently use apache, but have been looking into lighttpd lately. I have read some very good things about its performance.

What www daemon do you use?
Why do you use it?

I use thttpd.

why? because its dead simple and just works once you have it installed

Atm, ive got it running SSL+PHP on my server, https://iphitus.no-ip.org

I'll complete my pkgbuild and upload it.

Re: Which www daemon do you use, and why?

I was thinking about giving lighttpd a try, since it seems to be popular with both ruby and php programmers alike, but I have found little information on lighttpd with svn (ala webdav), so that is a sticky point right now. Apache works very well with svn/webdav.

Apache. It works for me, documentation is easy to find and it's popular in corporate environmet, so knowing it might help me find a job in the future.

I use apache.  Simple.  Straightforward.  The apache.conf file is well commented and easy to configure.  And it's fast.

Re: Which www daemon do you use, and why?

I've never really considered using anything other than Apache because I have been struggling with it for almost 3 years, so I know most of it's in's and out's now. I use it with PHP and MySQL for web development.

Re: Which www daemon do you use, and why?

I use thttpd mainly because I just use my home server to serve out files... so pacman -S thttpd && /etc/rc.d/thttpd start works great - no configuration needed, just toss files in /user/www/data

Apache. Used to read Karl May in my youth.

apache, as its a way to shoe horn oss into a windows env and show off the benifits of oss in a corp env (my boss is very pleased with apache/mysql/php esp the speed compared to iis)

hmm - some older benchmarks I found:
http://www.litespeedtech.com/benchmark.html

I may have to check out lighttpd...

Re: Which www daemon do you use, and why?

I'm not a httpd guru (read: I don't need any special features), but as for now I use lighttpd as my small web server. It's pretty simple, yet robust. Configuration is a breeze, everything's in one place, documentation covers all the important things in a nice manner. Moreover, benchmarks show it to be more efficient than apache, although it doesn't concern me that much ;-)

Apache is obviously a good piece of software, but with robustness comes the complicity. Like not even being sure what's the compress module for apache2 (*points at cactus*) ;-)

I've tried lighttpd solely for fun and, well, managed to set up some things I wouldn't even bother to set with apache (i.e. I wouldn't bother to browse all those modules docs, seeking the right thing).

Re: Which www daemon do you use, and why?

My initial findings and some info. I think lighttpd would server as an excellent backend for an apache proxying frontent.

IIS with FrontPage 2002 extensions on my Wimpy server, and Apache2 on Linux.
