secure voice+video chat using openvpn - need server software or someth

Hi,
this might sound like a very strange and paranoid intent, but it seems like I am not the only one searching for a solution (met someone IRL having the same problem).
Problem:
Establish a secure and trustworthy voice+video talk between different members of a closed distinguished circle. Members are not limited to linux only platforms, windows clients are allowed. No need for conference. Peer to peer communication only.
Partly solution until now:
Create a secure subnetwork through openvpn, then establish a connection between members.
Only acceptable client I found capable of crossplatforming+audio+video is ekiga. Skype might be lightweight under linux but is not under windows. Plus: I like FOSS better than closed source.
Needed: Server for mangling calls between users.
Opensips seems to be not enough for calling or i am doing something else wrong. I am relatively new to the whole matter.
Seems like asterisk ist the only option (having many deps); does anyone know of something else?

Another option would be direct connections between peers, but i have not found any software that does this. Any pointers? Other (reccomended) setups?

regards.

AFAIK mumble does not support video calls.
But I will try it nevertheless; thank you.
