[solved] vpn connections: ping OK, http timed out (generic networking)

EDIT: OK, there seems to be a known problem with my particular router. I'll dig into this, hopefully a firmware upgrade will help me out.

For some days now, the vpn from home to log into my university's network stopped working. There must be something wrong which has nothing to do with my config, but I don't know where to start/who to bug... Consider this:

* the connection is established without error
* ping works fine, but all http requests time out (same for browser or wget)
* happens with openconnect or cisco's anyconnect
* booted up windows and installed anyconnect - same crap
* campus IT is not really helpful, but claim there are no known problems on their side
* when I logged into campus wireless yesterday, vpn did work

Seems to me this must be either my rooter (provided by the ISP) or the ISP's fault. Before I try to convince them of this, any idea what could possibly have gone wrong here? Problem is, they sure will try to have me call their 1,79€/min tech support line on this...
