Where do you get your GNU/Linux news?

Hi guys. Just a quick question/discussion. Did a search, but it came up with no good results.

Where do you guys get your daily fix for Linux news, for everything new and exciting in the Linux world?

I'm still fairly new to Linux. First used it back around Ubuntu 8.10, but then switched back to Windows within a few weeks. Then got back into it around the beginning of this year with 10.04. Before eventually moving to Sabayon for quite a fair bit of time then just recently trying out Arch, and loving it.

As an Ubuntu user originally, I like to check out the articles on OMGUbuntu for news and info on new applications, or changes, being developed and also DistroWatch for news on new distributions or updates. I also like to read the occasional Linux article on Gizmodo or Lifehacker that they sometimes feature.

Anyway, where do you like to get your news?

used to read slashdot, but havent really followed it in quite some time. But mostly following some blogs will give me my daily fill. Nothing in particular....just some random linux blogs or about some particular linux app.

Re: Where do you get your GNU/Linux news?

By and large, I get online news by subscribing to RSS feeds (--I use Google Reader to aggregate them, but there are other options too--), not through normal web pages. If it weren't for RSS, there's no way I'd have time to visit all the webpages I'd want to visit every day. Indeed, I mainly become aware of new posts in these forums through its RSS feed.

Anyway, here are some broadly linux-related RSS feeds I subscribe to. Most of them have associated webpages too. (Thank goodness I can just export a list from Google Reader or I'd never remember them all...)

Re: Where do you get your GNU/Linux news?

I use iGoogle and have a tab dedicated to Linux.

On it I have the feeds for

LXer
Slashdot/Linux
Google Linux Search
Linux Journal
HowToForge: Linux
LinuxWatch
DistroWatch
Linux For Devices
Linux Magazine
Linux Today
Ubuntu Geek

I also have tabs for General News, Tech, Science, Entertainment and Sports.

It is really a good way to watch a lot of different sites. I can lose hours just reading links off my iGoogle page.

Desktop:  Compiz Stand Alone w/ Cairo Dock.
Laptop:    Pekwm w/ Tint2
Jukebox:   MPD w/ cli

Re: Where do you get your GNU/Linux news?

I follow quite a few sites. This is my list of RSS feeds, most of which are about opensource:

KDE-Apps.org Content
KDE.news
KDE Commit-Digest Updates
Planet KDE
KDE-Look.org Content
Amarok
Qt Labs Blog
The Qt Blog
OMG! SUSE!
Omg! Ubuntu!
Rolling Release
Linux Today
Linux.com - Content Feed
IT ja media - Uutiset - Ampparit.com
VideoLAN - News
Planet VideoLAN
The Chakra Project - News
Muropaketti – Plaza
Linuxers
The H - Grand unified feed
Planet GNOME
Phoronix
AfterDawn.com
SmSpillaz' Blog
Web Upd8
Between Linux and Anime
MobiiliBlogi
DistroWatch.com: News
MeeGo Blogs
MeeGo aggregator
Linux Foundation

That totals probably about 200 news sites and about as many blogs. Then there are sites which cover more wide range of subjects like lifehacker, slashdot and Arstechnica.

@frabjous - thank you for the list. Also I noticed there hasn't been new content on "The Daily Ubuntu" for about a year. Learning Ubuntu is down. Maybe you want to check your other feeds too.

I subscribe to This Week in Linux on Youtube, he has a wekly news video, and also tutorials, distro reviews, and other cool stuff. Besides that, all the important news somehow or another makes it either to this forum or to the Ubuntu Forums, which I visit a lot tongue

Freshnews gives me almost everything about Linux and hardware that I want to see:

Re: Where do you get your GNU/Linux news?

I get plenty of ideas from the arch forums. Interesting new linux related projects/apps get picked up pretty fast and turn up in aur. Other than that slashdot.org.

Re: Where do you get your GNU/Linux news?

Usually Phoronix (they may have lame/meaningless benchmarks sometimes, but they also pick up on some rumblings in dev mailing lists and git logs that I would otherwise never see), Slashdot, LWN (damn quality right there), and I also follow a few blogs.
