I can't force disable Xinerama

Card :

VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600 GT] (rev a2)

After consulting 'man xorg.conf' I added :

Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "Xinerama" "0"
EndSection

I tried 'nvidia-xconfig --no-xinerama' . It produced the same ServerFlags section and It didn't work .
I tried "XINERAMA" "0" , "Xinerama" "false" , "Xinerama" "Off" . Nothing worked .

I always have this output :

$ grep -i xine /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(**) Option "Xinerama" "0"
(II) Loading extension XINERAMA
(II) Initializing built-in extension XINERAMA

I'm doing this because I want to try mplayer with vdpau . NVIDIA doesn't support vdpau when Xinerama is enabled .

Re: I can't force disable Xinerama

The logs are clearly telling you that TwinView uses nvidia's own builtin Xinerama extension. What you are trying to disable ("true" Xinerama provided by X.org) is not enabled to start with. Vdpau should now work with TwinView, so try to find more information about that.

You need to install an RTFM interface.

Re: I can't force disable Xinerama

Well , I had this error in mplayer

[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_device_create_x11: 1

I googled and found this thread :
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpos … ostcount=4
So someone reported the error to NVIDIA and the moderator responded on Feb 25 2009 with this :

Hellkeepa,

You have Xinerama enabled. VDPAU isn't supported with Xinerama at present. Sorry.

I tried both editing xorg.conf directly and using nvidia-xconfig to disable Xinerama but I can still see Xinerama loading in my logs and vdpau not working , hence starting this thread .

Re: I can't force disable Xinerama

I'm having the same issue. My next step is to try installing the new beta driver.

UPDATE: The beta drivers didn't fix anything sadly sad.

Re: I can't force disable Xinerama

Well as it turns out, my graphics card is not supported. It uses the G80 chipset which really isn't that old. Kinda really annoying nVida...

So, if you have a 8800gts or older you'll get this error.
If you have a newer 8000 series (or 9000 or 200 series) you shouldn't have this issue be fine.

Also, nVidia does NOT plan on ever supporting this chipset for vdpau -_-

I've got the same error with my 6600gt. Any news about vdpau-support for older chipsets?

Same situation here, I use a AGP card too. Disappointing news, but thank you.

Re: I can't force disable Xinerama

I have the same issue ...
GeForce GT 330M, single monitor, and impossible to disable Xinerama. The BIG problem is that Xinerama now trigger a new xinerama related bug (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 75#p836875), and so I can't use QT apps ..

Do you find a way to disable nvidia's Xinerama ?

kibohely, seeing that you are new to the forums, I would suggest that you read the forum rules about resurrecting old threads. Please create a new thread and link to this to let people know what you have tried. Things change a lot with rolling release distros like Arch. What was valid a year ago, might not be the case anymore.

Closing for necrobumping.
