The main highlight: you can now run KDE without HAL with powerdevil still working. Although it still causes some problems, I'm testing it right now and detecting AC (un)plugging works and adjusting backlight works too. I think it crashes KDED at the start, but it restarts automatically and then it runs OK.
In System Settings -> Information Sources there is now UPower, only HAL, but HAL is definetelly not running on my PC.I think of setting UPower as default powerdevil's backend in next snapshot instead of HAL. HAL works, we all knows that but developers need to test the UPower backend more and here we could be useful.
And we'd be the very first to have hal-free KDE in reposhey.. it's really interesting all that information.. I'm in i686 so I need wait a little bit more to upgrade to this new snapshot but I want test it quickly HAL or NOT HAL....
thanks
i686 is ready for you

Hi. If you watch on KDE development could you tell me the situation about udev/dbus and other (udisk, upower)? As far I understand KDE4 uses hal to mount USB flash/disks while GNOME uses udev/udisk (?).

Actually there is some work going on on udev as a new Solid backend but I don't have any detail informations about it.

Hi guys,
just informing you that I'm not going build 4.5.74 this week cause I'm going on a con and I'm rather not taking my laptop with me. Please don't cry )

Just wanted to say thant on desktop computer everyting that I need works for me without HAL in 4.5.74svn1193262.
Removable devices, sound are working fine.
On 4.5.73.svn{} (previous build) it also worked.
There even were some glitches if HAL was running (all removable devices were shown twice).
And thanks for your work on this repository.

hi, I deactivated HAL daemon and mount device works with dolphin, I have error message when loading sound card but not really important, BUT even that I have installed upower I don't have this option in SystemSettings>InformationSources.. I only have HAL... I need another pkg than upower? thx...

I just looked quickly into the sources and I think it's just not-yet-implemented problem Wait a few releases and it will be there.

Hi, i have a problem with the installation of kde, two packages are inexistent, please update the packages list, i have tried also with the option --ignore in pacman, but continue.
Alternatively, there are a way to blacklist the packages?

Well, actually I do not package l10n. I'll try to package them later, I will have to setup my scripts.

Dear boys and girls, KDE 4.5.80 (a.k.a beta1) is waiting in the x86_64 repos!
Bad news for i686 users: you have to wait, still compiling
EDIT: i686 is ready

Maybe someone is interested in testing LionMail? I quickly modified sonme PKGBUILD so it builds lionmail from playground:
pkgname=lionmail-svn
pkgver=1197824
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Lion Mail Email Notifier"
url="http://www.kde.org"
license=(GPL)
arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
depends=(kdesupport-akonadi)
makedepends=('automoc4' 'subversion' 'cmake')
conflicts=()
provides=()
source=()
md5sums=()
_svntrunk="svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/playground/base/plasma/applets/lionmail/"
_svnmod="lionmail"
build() {
cd ${srcdir}
msg "Connecting to SVN server...."
if [ -d ${_svnmod}/.svn ]; then
(cd ${_svnmod} && svn up -r $pkgver)
else
svn co ${_svntrunk} --config-dir ./ -r $pkgver ${_svnmod}
fi
msg "SVN checkout done or server timeout"
msg "Starting make..."
svn export ${_svnmod} ${_svnmod}-build
cd ${_svnmod}-build
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RELEASE
make || return 1
make DESTDIR=$pkgdir install || return 1
After installing, it can be activated it in System Tray Settings.

Hi,
you URL is incorrect, it;s
http://arch.morrigan.ch/kde-snapshots-extra/os/i686
for i686 kde-snapshots-extra repo.
EDIT: oops, it looks like the URL in the first post in the thread was incorrect. Sorry for that, I fixed it.

It's just same as stable KDE kdelibs, kdebase-runtime, kdebase-workspace should be minimum and whatever else you want just install from the other groups.

Check if user kdm exists. Or change /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc to start as KDM as root. I'll fix the .install file to create 'kdm' user when it does not exists.
