+1 for this request. Your configs are quite neat, nice and simple. I'm curious about them. Mind sharing ?

Hey you guys using dzen/xmonad/etc., how would you compare to flux/openbox if you have used those too? I have used fluxbox for about 3 years and feels so at home but wouldn't mind to try another wm Thanks

I used Fluxbox the whole time I was on Gentoo (6+ years). I moved to Arch and it was recommended that I try a tiling WM because of the way I manually placed my windows. It all depends on your workflow, and how you organize stuff. For me, its much faster / easier to use XMonad than to use Fluxbox.
Give it a try, if its not for you, then go back to Fluxbox.

I've never used fluxbox, but I've been using fvwm for a long time. I think the core discussion you're proposing is the difference between tiling and floating wm (right?).
One of the main advantage of the tiling wm is that you can manipulate window placement with keyboard, whereas floating wm you need a mouse (well, you don't but it's much easier with a mouse). Also, with tiling wm, you rarely see your wallpaper, because once you open a window, it covers the whole screen (unless if you customize it otherwise).
Some of you might disagree with me, but I would try both "dynamic" tiling wm (eg. awesome), and "manual" tiling wm (eg. i3/subtle), because they manage windows differently. I personally like i3 the best. This wiki article compares most of the tiling wm's. Experiment. Have fun!

It's worth a shot if you're into minimal tilers.
