i found that dhcpcd now is an optdepend of networkmanager(0.8.2-5).
but if i remove dhcpcd, networkmanager service will start successfully but quit very soon.
BTW: i am in a wireless network. and i am not sure if it's a bug or not so i asked here.

Does it work with dhclient?
Also FWIW the PKGBUILD for networkmanager(0.8.2-6) has dhcpcd back in depends. However, I cannot find said 0.8.2-6 package.

For some reason dhcpcd was added as a dependency for networkmanager-0.8.2-6. I was using dhclient before successfully, so i dont really know why that dependency was added. Id actually prefere dhclient over dhcpcd, so i liked it better when dhcpcd and dhclient were both optional dependencies for networkmanager, so one could choose which to use.

if dhcpclient works too, then both of them should provide a fake package, like jre do.

thats what i think. does anyone know why dhcpcd now is a dependency of networkmanger and using dhclient is banned by that?

no. in the past nm only was compiled with dhcpcd support and dhclient could only be used only if the user did a NetworkManager.conf and specify in there. Now nm has been compiled with both dhcpcd and dhclient and the second would be used automatically, if present.
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

still in that case, dhcpcd shouldn't be a dependency of networkmanager, as it isn't..

it should be at least one and since dhcpcd is default in arch, i opted for that

it's just that if someone likes to use dhclient, he's got to have dhcpcd on the system also using networkmanager. thats not a big point i guess as the package is really small, still I'd prefere the users choice of what he likes to have and what not. for me dhcpcd is really slow on some occasions and therefore I switched to dhclient. i also don't like to have redundat packages on the system, that might be a personal thing- in that case i acknowledge that is doensn't make a big difference. thanks for anserwing directly from the base!
