However these lines seem to indicate that for some reason my touchpad is not supported by Synaptics?

[ 483.117] (EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware.

/proc/bus/input/devices shows this is definitely a Synaptics device

I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1
N: Name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio2/input0

U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse1 event7
B: EV=b
B: KEY=420 30000 0 0 0 0
B: ABS=11000003

Any help in getting two finger scrolling and two finger middle click would be great smile
I did see some references in the Synaptics wiki entry to hal but there was a note on the wiki entry saying that the info was outdated (and I thought hal was now obsolete for X?)

Re: Xorg Synaptic help!

The search function is your friend, there are a number of threads already with the same and similar issues.

To get you started though, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=104769 may be the same issue you're having.

Re: Xorg Synaptic help!

Thank-you! smile

I had tried searching for Synaptics but it had bought up so much stuff that I must've overlooked the topic you'd linked to! The topic you suggested helped resolve everything so now I have two finger scrolling and middle click working again

Re: Xorg Synaptic help!

What do you mean you can't install xf86-input-{evdev,synaptics}? What sort of errors are you getting etc
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … ow_to_Post

And, no you won't have a synaptics file until after you install the synaptics pkg, so you should focus on that.

You should probably ask yourself why you want to use Arch if you are having these sorts of difficulties. It is for competent Linux users...

Re: Xorg Synaptic help!

In that case, you're best bet would be to head to the Ubuntu community for help, since Arch is a good bit different from Ubuntu.  Can't understand why your touchpad wouldn't work automatically, but whatever...start here.  roll

You might have mentioned that earlier... This is an Arch Linux forum. As Anoknusa said, ask on the Ubuntu boards.
