I have an mobile modem Huawei E172 and I can't connect to the internet (Portugal, ISP: Kanguru).
I'm using networkmanager with gnome-applet, modemmanager and I already installed usbmodeswitch.
The device is perfectly detected by networkmanager, but the connection is always failing. I'm pretty sure that I have the correct definitions of the provider (no APN, no user and password, only CHAP authentication).
