[solved] netcfg issue -- wpa_ctrl_open: No such file or directory
I'm trying to get netcfg to work on a clean install of Arch on my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14"/E40. Here's my card:

I can connect manually using iwconfig+wpa_supplicant+dhcpcd just fine, but if I try to connect using netcfg, it errors out. Everything in the troubleshooting section of the netcfg wiki page either pertains to misconfigured drivers (that can't be it if I can connect manually, can it?) or being out of range (I'm sitting right next to my router). So here I am.
Furthermore, after the failed attempt to connect via netcfg, doing a 'dhcpcd wlan0 -k' and connecting manually again gives me an intermittent network connection.
Here's a full attempt I made to reproduce the problem after a clean reboot:

wlan0: associatedAll this output is foreign to me; I usually use a script I wrote to connect wirelessly. It uses the same low-level commands I'm familiar with, and supports profiles in a manner similar to netcfg, but it's horribly spaghetti-coded and it would be nice to use something I don't have to maintain 
. So, anybody got any ideas what my issue might be?

Okay, some more googling pinpointed the source of the intermittent network connectivity: I haven't been killing off the old wpa_supplicant processes. But, I'm still getting the same netcfg errors when I start clean with no dhcpcd's or wpa_supplicant's running.
If I watch the processes that are running while netcfg tries to start, I see wpa_supplicant being called correctly (with just an extra -P /var/path/to/some/file.pid compared to what I'm running), but dhcpcd doesn't start at all. Does anone know what's going on between those two commands?

Got it! took a hint from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=620863 and added "ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=wheel" to the file being supplied to wpa_supplicant.
