if you're the kind of person who likes a car with manual transmission and getting your hands dirty under the hood, then Arch Linux deserves your consideration.

haha, I think it depends on where you live. In America all cars are automatic, in Europe it's the opposite, at least where I live. Too bad both Europe and America use that "automatic" operating system, not counting Russia:

I must agree...Every vehicle I have ever owned (since 1988) with but one exception, has been a manual transmission.
No wonder I choose Arch(?)
I think I get the point though; the overwhelming majority of cars here are automatic.

You can also download an even smaller image and rely on ftp to download the most recently available files for a fresh installation. I only recommend this course though if you have a very fast (10Mbps or faster) Internet connection.

I don't agree with that part of the article. The last core snapshot was May 2010 so you may as well download the net install since you'll have to redownload them anyway when you upgrade the system

I did a net install a few weeks on ago on a 4Mbps connection and it was a breeze. Download packages took no longer than an hour or so.
And indeed, you'll have to download it all anyway, so in fact the fastest way to install might be using the net install. And it will be surely the most download size effective way.

I get much the same speed on my box, a bit less usually. It took me around an hour so, like you, I went to watch tv (and get a cup of tea).

I prefer to install from the core image so that I can install piece by piece, configuring each little chunk while I wait for the next to download. It feels to be more time efficient to me.
