[SOLVED] Set icons for applications in XFCE

Hi,

I was wondering if I can specify the icons for applications. Currently my gVim is using a "general" icon when in the panel but has the right icon when I create a launcher. This is how it looks like. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Sure!

Right-click on it and select "edit launcher"

Hi, actually the launcher is just fine. It's the icon in the panel and the actual window that isn't using gvim's default icon.

Then you need to edit gvim's .desktop file.

I don't know the exact name since I don't have it installed, but it will probably be gvim.desktop, inside /usr/share/applications

Re: [SOLVED] Set icons for applications in XFCE

Hi,

Yep, I have a gvim.desktop in /usr/share/applications. What it contains is:

Type=Application
TryExec=gvim
Exec=gvim
Icon=gvim
Terminal=false
...
Type=Application
TryExec=gvim
Exec=gvim
Icon=gvim
Terminal=false

There is also gvim.png in /usr/share/pixmaps.

I never use desktop icons, so I may be way off base.

But have you tried giving the full path to the gvim.png ?

Heya, tried your suggestion. I've put:

Then restarted x and ran but no dice. sad

Err, it was gvim specific. I wasn't able to set the 'i' flag for guioptions in my .gvimrc.. Thanks!
