3g speed problem

Hi!

I have a dual boot system, windows 7 and arch linux testing version, the machine is a hp probook 4510s, which has a built in 3g modem (gobi 2000). I have sucessfully installed the firmware and dialed my provider (which is T-Mobile Hungary) under both systems, but I've noticed that there is a large network speed difference between the two os: linux download speed is about 15 kbyte/s windows is normal several hundred kbyte/s. I have tried with another modem, huawei E1750, but the speed difference remained. I have googled the net and found articles that the trouble is with the network providers infrastructure, and there is no other solution exists. I'd like to ask if anyboday has noticed similar problems and has any clue how to solve this problem? (with other network interfaces ethernet, wifi there's no such problem). It's very annoying that I can't use my favourite os when 3g is the only connection option.

Thank you for any help.

Re: 3g speed problem

I also dual boot with windows (xp) with a huawei modem (dunno the model): I experience the opposite: arch with the modem flies at speeds xp can only dream of. I am using wvdial to connect. I think if there were trouble with your provider, it would also have affected Win7...?

My wvdial.conf:

[Dialer Defaults]
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Modem Type = USB Modem
ISDN = 0
New PPPD = yes
Phone = *99#
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Username = username
Password = password
Stupid Mode = on
Baud = 460800
Idle Seconds = 0

Re: 3g speed problem

Hey!
I also use wvdial and first I set the baud rate to a too small parameter and Internet was very slow. After I set it to a higher level, it runs. I also have a huawei modem. Maybe this helps...

Best regards!

Re: 3g speed problem

I've modified the networkmanager system connection settings and modified the baud rate to 460800, no luck, speed remains low under linux, any ideas?
