Just wondering when the next official Arch snapshot is planned to be released.

we now roll out weekly isos. Keep in mind that those are "experimental" and feedback regarding those are welcomed on the ml.

wonder - Thanks for the links to the weekly builds. I was under the impression that the Arch Dev Team planned to release official snapshots approx every six months or so - is this still the case?

The plan was to make releases alongside major kernel upgrades, but plans are never really followed!

And GPT support too (syslinux supports it). Please move away from cfdisk to normal fdisk (4K sector support), parted and gdisk combination.

This has already been mentioned (or requested) many times in the irc and many other threads. I used archboot to install my system. But as an official iso, archiso needs to catch up to many modern technologies.

For starters, archlinux has to ditch grub legacy for syslinux (or grub2) as the default bootloader.

Sorry if I have offended anyone. I didn't mean to be rude. I have contributed to archlinux, (to the wiki) and to archboot specifically in form of implementing grub2 efi support ( http://projects.archlinux.org/archboot. … 6506610622 ). I am not yet fully proficient in aif or even bash for that matter, to hack on archiso/aif. But I will surely try to, sometime.

No doubt the devs are doing a great job. I understand everyone is contributing out of interest and good will. I just wanted to say that as a cutting edge distro (using python 3 as default, latest kernels etc.) we (myself included) should also try to incorporate the latest technologies wherever possible (in this case in the installer).

These kind of threads always get peoples backs up and it will end up in tears

Devs do an amazing job for the money, without them no Arch, no Arch no forum!

and I am sorry if I was too curt as well, but topics like these have been beaten to death (see package security) and it always boils down to the fact that there isn't an agreement on how to develop "whatever it is that is in question" or the devs don't have enough time to put into it for various reasons like personal life and work etc.

So either people need to step up to the plate OR just wait until the feature is developed by existing devs.

+1 to what Mr Green and Inxsible,
i've spent a *lot* of time on releng stuff, and probably will continue to do so, but there's only so much I can do. if you want to help, run the testbuilds and report feedback, preferrably patch archiso/aif.
