This is Openbox + pcmanfm + Conky + (not sure) PyPanel.
There is info on openbox in wiki.

Also, Do I want to install Gnome first then Openbox or install Openbox and not bother with gnome?

Openbox doesn't depend on gnome. They are completely separate. But Openbox is just a window manager, and if you want, you can use openbox under gnome (i.e. with gnome panels, etc.).
If you want exactly the same environment, as on the screenshots, you don't need gnome.
In general, you can hold as many DEs/WMs as you want.
If you need some applications that depend on gnome, you will be able to install gnome later but still use your preferred environment (f.ex. openbox and related stuff).
Though, I'd suggest you to start with openbox, if you're new to linux. This will help you to gain better understanding on DEs and WMs.

*Hmm, you seem like someone I know, but getting back on topic, I would say it depends on your skill level with linux. You could install both and use gnome as a backup if other window managers (WM) are hard for you or just jump in head first. Its mostly preference at this point.
*Perhaps from a land down under?

Liam1895, welcome to the forums. I would point you to our wonderful wiki which has a whole load of information. You need to read up on it and get up to speed. Read about openbox in general and it should tell you everything you need to know about it.

There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !
